The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (Polish: Wiedźmin 2: Zabójcy królów) is an action role-playing hack and slash video game developed by Polish studio CD Projekt RED for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, OS X and Linux. The game was released internationally for Microsoft Windows on 17 May 2011 and for Xbox 360 on 17 April 2012. It is a sequel to the 2007 video game The Witcher. Like its predecessor, the game is based on The Witcher series of fantasy novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The player directs the actions of Geralt of Rivia, an enhanced human called a Witcher who hunts monsters. The fantasy world in which his adventures take place owes much to Polish history and Slavic mythology. The game was a critical and commercial success, selling more than 1.7 million units for the PC and Xbox 360 as of May 2012.     I've played through this twice now.
    Each time was... eh?
    The big, glaring "holy shit" is the combat. It's the worst. Entire hordes of enemies can be defeated by the simple mashing of light-attack, rendering magic and dodging practically useless (and blocking? No point whatsoever).
    My last playthrough was on hard difficulty. I died thrice. During the Kayran fight, it begins by swinging a tentacle, and that one-shot me. Next attempt, I just dodged it. Second death occurred during a cutscene, so I'm not sure what happened. Third death was against the final boss, the one at the tower. That's me avoiding spoilers. As I had avoided placing my skill points to add additional challenge, one hit (from any enemy) would often take away more than 60% of my health. I gotta say, that extra challenge actually made the game more interesting.

      Editing … ...eriences. Despite this, the story didn't quite compare to the first game's, at least in my eyes, and sidequests were just boring. They're tedious and bland--but maybe that's because I got so tired of running around each of the hub worlds, which were--again--dull. The first Witcher may have had large hub worlds, but they held much more content, and could be traversed much quicker. In The Witcher 2, I just wanted to mod in sprinting, anything to speed up the process. Another issue was that dialogue trees had been toned down, providing less talk of philosophy, far fewer options overall, and vague dialogue choices, in the same vein as Fallout 4. Like that game, there are many characters than can't be spoken to after running through their sparse options.

      Editing … There are positives, however. The game looks very pretty, and has fantastic textures. You can also cut Geralt's hair to resemble his appearance in The Witcher 1. The soundtrack was also highly enjoyable, even if it didn't quite match the first game's. The game isn't bad, I'm just passionate about the series, and this was absolutely (only a Sith deals in those...) not up to par with what the franchise should be offering.

    Halfway through this I think. The story is kind of captivating, lots of political backstabbery and sorceresses teleporting around. The inventory is a clusterfuck though, Geralt is now a kleptomaniac :\ I mean, I'm carrying half of Temeria's timber in my pockets...

    Imperfect combat gameplay, skill tree, a bad tutorial and introduction to the lore for the non already familiar do not detract too much from the gourgeous visuals, terrific story, great grey politically driven moral choices, gorgeous women characters and a stellar fantasy setting that feels different than anything else and it's more modern social commentary than most other works out there. Brilliant.

    Visually stunning. Music was great in places (night time in Vergen for example). Some locations were sumptuously beautiful (Flotsam. Oh my.). The story was intriguing and really picked up by the end. I loved how diverse the game can be based on your choice; act 2 can be completely different depending on who you side with. Some quests were a real joy, others mediocre. The combat was..challenging and frustrating at times, yet an improvement from the first game. I didn't like how the fist fights were dumbed down to QTEs...that was a clear case of catering to console players (even though I played the PC one on release). Characters were generally more interesting and the game had a great atmosphere. Also the physical goodies were great too!
