Television
Television (TV) is a telecommunication medium for transmitting and receiving moving images that can be monochrome (black-and-white) or colored, with or without accompanying sound. "Television" may also refer specifically to a television set, television program, or television transmission. The etymology of the word has a mixed Latin and Greek origin, meaning "far sight": Greek tele (τῆλε), far, and Latin visio, sight (from video, vis- to see, or to view in the first person). Commercially available since the late 1920s, the television set has become commonplace in homes, businesses and institutions, particularly as a vehicle for advertising, a source of entertainment, and news. Since the 1950s, television has been the main medium for molding public opinion. Since the 1970s, the availability of video cassettes, laserdiscs, DVDs and now Blu-ray Discs have resulted in the television set frequently being used for viewing recorded as well as broadcast material. In recent years, Internet ...

Saved!NodleyEditing … Wasn't it always like that? Growing up I had The A Team, Knightrider, The Turtles, Cheers, Fraiser, Star Trek etc
-
Saved!SandvichEditing … We definitely needed 4 shows in the Sheldon-verse. Bazinga!
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … Oh right, your spoilers are working now.
-
Saved!rockshard PhDEditing … I found out a couple days ago that the original Star Trek lasted only 3 years, and that fan interest drove the networks to eventually bring it back. I had no idea. Always assumed it was this thousand episode affair kinda like Doctor Who. Star Trek actually seems watchable at this point. I could always decide after watching the original run whether I need to see the rest or not.
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … It just seems really weird to me that The Walking Dead has eight separate TV shows, or that Dexter has four shows. Any breakout hit has to receive not just one spinoff, but a franchise of spinoffs. Game of Thrones isn't gonna stop at three shows, they're gonna greenlight more.
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … Oh my god. I thought Sandy was joking. There are actually two more upcoming Big Sheldon Theory spinoffs.
-
Saved!SandvichEditing … One of them started airing in October. I keep getting Youtube shorts from it no matter how many times I say I'm not interested. We're all going to drown in the Sheldon-sphere.
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … Why focus on making one strong series when you can saturate the market and cash in on all that CONTENT. People will have to watch your franchise, if every show becomes your franchise.
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … They announced another Yellowstone spinoff :|
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … Well, the Dexter prequel show about the Trinity Killer has been greenlit. Also, Prime has a recent TV franchise called "Citadel" with three shows in the past two years. I wonder if there'll be more.

Saved! Is it possible to wall mount a TV at an angle? I just googled it and there are mounts that let you tilt the TV down. But I want to tilt to horizontally, not vertically.
Explanation: Our current TV faces diagonally right because it's near the left side of the room. We can do this because the TV's stand is in the center. But all TVs now have legs that are on the sides instead of the middle. I imagine this offers more stability, but it means we can't turn the TV diagonally without it falling off. So if this TV breaks and we have to get a new one we are very screwed. I was wondering what our options are and a diagonal-facing mount seemed like the best solution to me, assuming such a thing exists. Any suggestions?-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … Try looking up "horizontal adjustment" when you make an Amazon search for the item. Is something like this good? It looks like "Full Motion" is a useful keyword too. https://www.amazon.com/VEVOR-Horizontal-Adjustment-Articulating-400x400mm/dp/B0CCVBZ6K8

Saved! This TV section raises questions https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fictional_shared_universes_in_film_and_television
-
Saved!free fallEditing … Wait The Nanny and King of Queens are set in the same universe as Everybody Loves Raymond? And this is the first I'm hearing of this Tommy Westphall idea. Headcanon is a scary thing
-
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … Lots of these "shared universes" seem to be based on single crossover episodes, hence every adult animated sitcom apparently being in the same universe according to Wikipedia
-
Saved!Rich .Editing … TV Tropes has a page for this too: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SharedUniverse
-
-
Saved!MrZAPEditing … Oh man yeah the Tommy Westphall theory is great. Basically a few hundred TV shows are all in the same universe. If you ever want a weird trip read up on it.
-
Saved!WoodrowShigeruEditing … I also read Super Mario Nation. I don't even get what it's actually supposed to mean.

Saved!WoodrowShigeruEditing … Admittedly, the laziness got the better of me, as wisdom was a mere click away. In any case, Thunderbirds was dope.

Saved!I don’t really watch much TV anymore even though it used to be my favorite thing. It’s mostly forums, games, and Youtube for me now.
-
-
Saved!AxersiaEditing … I stopped watching TV in the traditional sense back in '05, when I figured out I could just download episodes of LOST and didn't need to wait a year for them to air here. I do, however, have a Netflix subscription, which I mainly use to keep up with Netflix-exclusive shows.
-
Saved!Rich .Editing … I watch TV traditionally if it's something my family/flatmates want to watch too but yeah, other than that I use streaming so there's no adverts.

Saved!I just realized it's kinda weird how my taste in TV is so evenly split into thirds between live action, western animation, and anime. People usually lean on one or two. But I've got Lost, Gunslinger Girl, and The Simpsons all hanging out together, among other examples.
-
Saved! So I'm looking at the shows in my top 50 I got into in the past five and a half years (or post high school): Pony, Baby Steps, Buffy, Braceface, Star Trek TNG, Cutthroat Kitchen, Gravity Falls, Young Justice, Kodocha, We Bare Bears, Adventure Time, The X Files, Game of Thrones, Angel, F is for Family, Kotoura-san, Pokemon Origins, and Yuki Yuna is a Hero.
I expected to like a third of those at most. Most of them were real shots in the dark that curiosity or it just being available to click on led me into. I think the reason I try way fewer shows than games is that I have a much harder time predicting what shows I'll like. Gravity Falls and The X Files are the only shows on that list I had high hopes for, with Angel and Adventure Time being runners up. I guess I just have to try anything that crosses my path. -
Saved!I wonder if I'll ever see a perfect show. Not moment to moment perfect of course, that's impossible. I mean a 10/10 show without a MAJOR flaw. The Simpsons continues after its first decade. Pony I dislike a fourth of the episodes. Digimon is a guilty pleasure, it has all sorts of problems. And Baby Steps has a really slow start and I don't think it'll be very rewatchable. Who knows?

Saved!ErektionsiteEditing … XII is a pretty unusual favorite for Samurai Jack. It rarely gets mentioned at all from what I've seen. I like XLIV myself.
-
Saved!Dr EggnogEditing … I didn't like season 4. XII just had so much packed into it. I also loved X and XI, that was such a great little stretch.
-
Saved!ErektionsiteEditing … Yeah I agree that season 4 was pretty weak overall, but I think there were some highlights. I just hope that Season 5 lives up to the expectations.

Saved!Silent GamerEditing … Kind of makes you wonder why you bother continuing with them :P Will they ever reach the heights of the early episodes? :P
-
Saved!Dr EggnogEditing … Well I stopped watching The Simpsons. And Digimon. And Braceface. And Lost only had one season I didn't like. And Baby Steps only had two seasons. And Pony seasons 4 and 5 weren't too far from being as good as 1-3, and even season 6 wasn't bad though I wouldn't mind if it stopped now.
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … I dunno if there are really enough shows I've stuck with that would allow me to make a list like this. I keep getting recommended a bunch, but TV is pretty low on my priorities. Did you rewatch these to come up with the list or is just from memory?
-
Saved!Dr EggnogEditing … To have a score for a season I either have to have seen it a lot or seen it recently. When I was a kid I didn't score things as much.
-
Saved!Dr EggnogEditing … The top 2 are my only 10/10 seasons. Season 2 of Simpsons is my only 9.5 season. The rest are the seasons I feel confident are 9/10s.
