Thinking of it, getting grades in primary school wasn't motivating either, too many teachers are leaning to get your grade at what they expect from you instead of your skills are. It bothers me that by default 1-6 is used except 1-20 for one other school type. Grades weren't comparable back then, today won't be better.

In the US we've had problems with "gifted" programs, where students deemed as gifted by their teachers receive superior education. Except studies have found that any child randomly sorted into a gifted program would perform at the level expected of a gifted student—teacher-selected gifted children are just the students teachers are most biased toward selecting (largely wealthier, whiter kids). I think some kids would unfairly be given more Likes, and would be given more opportunities to earn Likes, because of the role teacher biases play in education. But it's an interesting step away from A-F grades. It's a little like the Hogwarts points that kind of only mattered in the first book, except those were separate from their grades.
