Super Smash Bros. Melee
Nintendo's all-star cast of combatants is back in Super Smash Bros. Melee, along with a new batch of brawlers ready to tear it up. The sequel to Super Smash Bros. keeps the same basic premise: Characters duke it out in interactive environments, using special attacks and various items to knock each other into the abyss. Some new defensive techniques add an even deeper level of complexity to the combat. In addition to traditional battle royale matches, players can select all-new ways to play like

ded man wrote his opinion about Super Smash Bros. MeleeSaved! This is the only video game I still play consistently. There is no situation or mood I could be in when I would decline a bout in Melee. My Peach is a god.
-
Saved!271072aEditing … Smash 4>Melee. I mean Cloud, and Mega Man.
-
Saved!UltyEditing … Smash 4 is fantastic, but Melee is still on it's own level.
-

-
Saved!CaffEditing … Melee: the game I love to watch people play, but loathe playing

Saved!I'm always hesitant about putting multiplayer games in top ten (or whatever number) lists because I find the personal experiences and preferences one has with them often create more nostalgia than single player games. For instance, I'm sure many people have fond memories of sitting down with their friends to play Goldeneye or Halo for hours on end. Or perhaps you remember going back and forth with your friends hudled around an arcade cabinet playing 3rd Strike? I'm sure anyone with a decent group of friends who gamed had that one multiplayer game you couldn't put down. Well for me and my friends that game was Melee, and I'll never forget staying up until dawn just so I could smack Marth in the face with Samus's arm cannon just one more time.
-
Higemaru wrote his opinion about Super Smash Bros. MeleeSaved!Infinite replay-ability. I've been playing the game for about 10 years now (as of May 31st 2014) and it still has yet to lose its luster. The game itself is a love letter to Nintendo history and this is evident in everything from the roster to the soundtrack to the collectible trophies. The game itself is simple but very, very difficult to master and the game's speed is just right. The game's balance could use some work but in casual play that doesn't really matter all that much. When people ask what the best game on the Gamecube is, there is no other answer but Super Smash Bros. Melee. (Wind Waker runs a close 2nd or 3rd guys, don't hurt me).
-
Filly Vanilli wrote her opinion about Super Smash Bros. MeleeSaved!I can't even lie about this game. The controls are the most unresponsive, sluggish garbage I've ever seen in a fighting game. I hate it more every time I play it (which I only do to humor my friends every now and then). I don't even like playing as a single character on the roster. I get that Brawl's tripping mechanic is unnecessary and annoying, but aside from that, there is no sensible reason for saying this overrated piece of nostalgia bait is better than its Wii counterpart.
-
Saved!DjinnFighterEditing … Melee is my least favorite in the bunch too... but to say that "the controls are the most unresponsive ever seen in a fighting game" is a bit too much. It's like Brawl but faster. Try any classic 3D fighting games from the Virtua Fighter 1-2 era, Melee will feel so good after that
-
Saved!Filly VanilliEditing … It's certainly not faster in my experience. Controls are unresponsive crap. I can't tell you how many times I was like "Okay, game, that's NOT what I said to do"... a problem that's mysteriously absent in Brawl

Sleuth Mechanism wrote her opinion about Super Smash Bros. MeleeSaved!Melee perfected the smash bros formula. With it's cast of varied and beloved nintendo characters, frantic fast-paced action, and competitive depth melee is one of those few games that not only has something for everyone but EXCEEDS at pleasing both demographics.
Brawl may have added more characters but it stripped away melee's fast and smooth pacing and added a bunch of pointlessly overpowered items that seemed to be added just for the purposing of being "wacky" rather than adding to the fun. -
Dario Turco wrote his opinion about Super Smash Bros. MeleeSaved!Just like the First one.... But even better! More Characters, Stages, Modes and a Balanced Fighter are the Only Reasons why this Game is still beeing played today.
-
In likeflynn wrote his opinion about Super Smash Bros. MeleeSaved!I love all super smash brothers games, but melee is definitely the best of them all; all of the nintendo characters are well balanced with their own unique moves, combat is fast and smooth, with excellent single player modes and of corse the timeless multi-player that makes the series, in 1-to-1 combat I never feel you are in a huge disadvantage I feel I always have that chance of wining, thats why I think this is my fighting game.
-
SideSmash wrote his opinion about Super Smash Bros. MeleeSaved! While its sequel may have been an overall better package, it was Super Smash Bros. Melee that will be remembered in the halls of video game history. Melee was the Gamecube-seller, and the reason wasn't just because it was the only GC title worth having (it wasn't-there are plenty others). Melee was brilliant in its original fighting formula; rather than a flat surface with two buff guys beating each other up, four players could join in on the action with easy-to-use special moves and stages with its own height, width, and behavior. With 28 characters, TONS of collectibles, and an increased speed in fighting, Melee is my personal favorite in the series. Is it better than Brawl? No. But I still prefer it over the 2008 sequel.
-
DJ_JJSlider wrote his opinion about Super Smash Bros. MeleeSaved!Smash Bros. Melee updated this fighter with a slew of new fighting tactics, characters and bonus items. It was one of the first fighting games to make the single-player mode fun, by adding a Gachapon-style reward system. To this day, no other Smash Bros. game has matched the same excitement as Melee.
-
AdmiralMikey wrote his opinion about Super Smash Bros. MeleeSaved!Easy to learn, hard to master, like all great games. While I will say that Brawl is *better*, Melee is the game that made me fall in love with this series. Plenty of unlockables for hours of single player joy, even more potential hours of multiplayer joy. It's just an all out Nintendo fangasm that expanded on the original Smash Bros in every way imaginable.
