If a foot doctor is called a podiatrist, and a foot fetishist is called a podophile, why don't we count our steps with a podometer? Is this a sinister conspiracy from the Libertarian Party to keep us from constructing pedophile-detecting instruments?

So I've looked it up. Ped and pod, in reference to feet, are derived from Latin and Greek respectively, whereas "paidos" is a Greek word meaning "of children." I think you Brits were right, for once, about spelling such words as "paediatrics." Doun't feel toou smoug about it though.

Which doctor would you go see if a dark purple fluid was dripping out of your toes and your toenail looked like it was about to fall off?

    Completely hypothetical inquiry, btw.

Ran my second Ultra-race this past weekend, UltraVasan 45 Km at 4 hours 33 minutes. Very satisfied with that time. Was almost exactley what I was aiming for :)

I ran my first Ultra Marathon 50 KM today at 5 hours and 27 minutes. Not happy about the time but it is a starting off point I guess :)

I used to hate running but it becomes pretty natural after a while, then you eventually love it for some reason. To anybody interested in starting exercise, running is a pretty good choice: it's cheap and you can start as small as you like, even just 1 minute of running builds up to 1 hour if you work on it over time.

Editing … It does go away but a few things: you shouldn't be breathing that hard, when 'jogging' you should be able to hold a conversation with someone next to you (between breaths). Once you advance to running then yeah you breathe harder but by then you have built a resistance to it.

Editing … My mistake when I first started was running too hard, both in terms of speed but also jumping too much and being too stiff. Try starting off by jogging on the spot and then just increase the speed forward to about walking pace. Jogging should be pretty gentle and your body should be relaxed.
