I used to hate running but it becomes pretty natural after a while, then you eventually love it for some reason. To anybody interested in starting exercise, running is a pretty good choice: it's cheap and you can start as small as you like, even just 1 minute of running builds up to 1 hour if you work on it over time.

Editing … It's bad for your knees though if you're really heavy, cycling is a good alternative if you're an American.

Editing … You know, it's weird but I only get knee pain when I cycle. I think maybe some people land too stiffly or run too fast for long stretches. I only ever run 5-10 km at the moment though, maybe longer distances put a lot more strain.

Editing … It's poor technique, I spent weeks running on a treadmill in front of a mirror to stop myself bouncing up and down and not leaning forward. Your average runner wont go through that hassle.

Editing … It does go away but a few things: you shouldn't be breathing that hard, when 'jogging' you should be able to hold a conversation with someone next to you (between breaths). Once you advance to running then yeah you breathe harder but by then you have built a resistance to it.

Editing … My mistake when I first started was running too hard, both in terms of speed but also jumping too much and being too stiff. Try starting off by jogging on the spot and then just increase the speed forward to about walking pace. Jogging should be pretty gentle and your body should be relaxed.

Editing … You can also play around with it: run for 30 seconds, walk for 30, run for 30 etc. And just gradually increase the time every week or two. Start as small as you have to and build up over time.

Editing … That's good training. Our coach used to take us out running and every so often would make us sprint between 2 lampposts then back to running until we recovered then repeat.
