Red Dead Redemption is a 2010 open world Western action-adventure video game, developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games. It was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on May 18, 2010. It is a spiritual successor to 2004's Red Dead Revolver. Most of the game's story takes place in the year 1911, during the decline of the American Frontier. The game follows John Marston, a former outlaw whose wife and son are taken hostage by the government in ransom for his services as a bounty hunter. Having no other choice, Marston sets out to bring the three members of his former gang to justice. Upon its release, Red Dead Redemption was met with universal critical acclaim, averaging approximately 95/100, 94% and 9.3/10 on review aggregate websites Metacritic, GameRankings, and GameStats, respectively, making it one of the highest-rated video games of all time.     I really don't like the honor system. Just let me go on a massacre without taking away my outfit unlock progress or whatever this stuff gets me

      Editing … Oh it locks your outfit and stuff? that's weird I don't remember that. That doesn't sound like a good design choice. Just make it about honor and have people be afraid of you and hate your guts.

      Editing … Nah I mean there are 18 outfits in the game, and you gotta do stuff to unlock most of them. I unlocked my current outfit, a duster, through raising my honor, but I don't know if I'll lose it if my honor falls. The Red Dead wiki says there's a unique mount if you have low honor, but that you'll lose it if your honor raises.

      Editing … The wiki also says that unlike another benefit I can lose if my honor drops, I can keep the outfit. That's good. The stats for the low honor horse are also a bit unimpressive, since the complete editions of RDR give you a DLC horse that seems to have the best stats in the game.

      Editing … Outfits have special attributes too. According to that wiki, the duster makes you fireproof. A tutorial popup also said a suit would let me cheat at poker.

      Editing … The honor system's a bit better now that I know all the unlocks. Now that I have the duster, I could either unlock a thing that makes enemies less accurate (more honor) or a special (and worse) horse (less honor). One area also rewards having low honor, and gang members there will even shoot at me if I wear the duster (since it's a symbol of having good honor), but most areas reward having high honor.

    A guy stole my horse so I took it back, and when he started shooting me, I killed him. Then I lost 50 honor.

    I just jumped into this game on my Switch. Went on a massacre, killed some lawmen, got myself rich, then after some exploring a pack of coyotes swarmed and killed me. The game says it has an autosave feature, but I have no clue when it decides to save, because my entire spree was undone. I hate when games don't have generous save spots.

    I'm surprised how much people love the story in this. The only part I found clever was how they handled the post game. It was no Silent Hill 2 or Final Fantasy VII or To the Moon.

    I can't imagine Rockstar will ever outshine what they accomplished with Red Dead Redemption. An open world western, with the best story and gameplay seen in a Rockstar game! Not to mention the kickass train.
    Fucking love that train.
    Man, cowboys are the greatest. Hunting's the greatest. Leaping from horseback onto a speeding train is the greatest.
    Damn I love that train.
