Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (Japanese: メタルギアソリッド2 サンズ・オブ・リバティ) is an action-adventure stealth game directed by Hideo Kojima, originally developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Japan and published by Konami for the PlayStation 2 in 2001. It is the fourth Metal Gear game produced and directed by Kojima and the direct sequel to Metal Gear Solid. Its release was followed by an expanded edition, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance for Xbox, PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Windows. A direct sequel was released in 2008, titled Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (with Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater being a prequel). The story revolves around the "Big Shell", a massive offshore clean-up facility that has been seized by a group of terrorists that call themselves "Sons of Liberty". They demand a massive ransom in exchange for the life of the President of the United States, and threaten to destroy the facility and create a cataclysmic environmenta...

Saved!DJ_JJSliderEditing … There's actually more than one place in the U.S. named Gobbler's Knob. They probably wanted some of that groundhog action.

Pudding wrote his opinion about Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of LibertySaved! You have to hand it to Kojima for the ballsiest move this medium has ever seen. To pull such a bait and switch on everyone, with one of the most highly anticipated titles of all time, was a potentially career-ending move and yet Kojima still makes games and to this day we talk about and analyze MGS2.
Pros: Superb cast of characters, incredible production values, excellent, highly ambitious and bizarrely prophetic/interpretive story walks a fine line but rarely steps into the ridiculous territory, awesome boss fights, fantastic visuals, excellent level design and gameplay hold up to this day, superb voice acting, great music, the little things that mean a difference, codec conversations, tanker level is one of the medium's best, troll level = Kojima
Cons: Raiden shows a baffling amount of ignorance during his opening hours, slightly problematic controls, the inclusion of the tranquilizer gun made stealth a lot easier and less tactical compared to the original, a few plot holes -
Saved!"All this rhetoric to avoid conflict and protect each other from hurt. The untested truthes spun by different interests continue to churn and accumulate in the sandbox of political correctness and value systems. Everyone withdraws into their own small gated community, afraid of a larger forum. They stay inside their little ponds, leaking whatever 'truth' suits them into the growing cesspool of society at large. The different cardinal truthes neither clash nor mesh. No one is invalidated, but nobody is right. Not even natural selection can take place here. The world is being engulfed in 'truth'."

Kris Reid wrote his opinion about Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of LibertySaved!Metal Gear Solid 2 is the first MGS game of the PS2 era and it pulls no punches. With not one, but two protagonists we get to see Solid Snake like we never have before.
MGS2 brought many gameplay aspects that have been with the series since: Holding guards up, searching their bodies, dragging their dead/sleeping/knocked out selves away from open areas to hide them in lockers of which you can use yourself should you need to. Porn Magazines, tranquilizer guns! All the fun you expect from MGS today started here.
This games story is one of identity, censorship, population and internet control. If anything this game is more important today than it was during its release in 2001, and for that alone I have to recommend this title.
If there is any downsides to MGS2 its the long winded cutscenes and codec conversations that interrupt the flow off the game; "Do you know what day tomorrow is, Jack?" Luckily this title has enough gameplay and replay value to make up for it. -
Kaleb Grein wrote his opinion about Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of LibertySaved!Perhaps being late to the series is a good approach, because it seems to make Raiden far, far more likable. Dare I say it, I much prefer him to Snake in MGS2 because his movements are quicker and looser, making stealth, retreat, and combat less aggravating. I generally hated the gameplay at first, but have come to enjoy it more with every playthrough. Just not my favorite controls/feel compared to other MGS titles, but of course that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it. Every core entry in the series has its own reasons to potentially be called the best, and MGS2 is no exception.
