Kingdom Hearts (Japanese: キングダムハーツ, Hepburn: Kingudamu Hātsu?) is an action role-playing game developed and published by Square (now Square Enix) in 2002 for the PlayStation 2 video game console. It's the first game in the Kingdom Hearts series, and is the result of a collaboration between Squaresoft and The Walt Disney Company. The game combines characters and settings from Disney animated features with those from Square's Final Fantasy series. The story follows a young boy, Sora, as he is thrown into an epic battle against the forces of darkness. He is joined by Donald Duck, Goofy, and other classic Disney characters who help him on his quest. The game was a departure from Square's standard role-playing games, introducing a substantial action-adventure element to the gameplay.     It still holds up really well. Best Disney world is Tarzan (or Winnie The Pooh) and worst is probably Aladdin (which got a better world in KH2 anyway).

      Editing … I probably feel the same. I can't exactly say why but KH2 feels like it lost some of the magic that was in KH1. Also I hate that the Disney stuff got gradually less important in later installments. Like, remember when King Triton mentioned how the Keybearer brings death and destruction when he met Sora in Atlantica, some nice foreshadowing of the keyblade war. Or when Genie mentions that he remembers the keyblade from somewhere cuz he is a really fucking old entity and would have lived when the keyblade war was ongoing.

      Editing … I also thought KH2's combat was downgraded. The new additions were probably meant to add complexity, but all they resulted in was making the combat easier.

    This was one of the first games I got for my PS2 when I was eight years old. I'm kinda amazed that I had the patience to finish the game back then with my limited english skills at the time, I guess all the bright colours and the Disney stuff motivated me enough. Anyhow, I still love this game as much as I did when I first played it.

    Like Super Mario 64, the diversity of songs while retaining quality is astounding. Music themed after existing Disney properties sound derivative in the best possible way, and the songs for new characters, areas, and situations put most of the Final Fantasy library to shame. Character themes are a bit less impressive, but the bulk of the soundtrack makes up for that and one or two divisive pop songs.

    Weeb as fug but it pulled off its weird concept really well and was tons of fun. Story still made some sense back then as well.

    Even though I hate the concept of fighting with Disney character and enemies, the art style is very expressive. It also has a pretty decent storyline about saving the world from darkness. Sure, it isn't original, but it looks very cool.

    Squaresoft and Disney went together like cake and ice cream. I love Square and Disney, they put them together in one game and I just fell in love with it. You play as an everyday Squaresoft hero and get sucked into a world where you get to explore a bunch of Disney universes. It was such a simple concept and it's a shame that newer games of this series make that convoluted. This game hit it the best, with your lovable Disney cast and relatable Square heroes, it's a loveletter of crossover fanfiction. While it may not be the best JRPG ever, it has one of the most unique premises ever that delivers in spades that make you forgive some of the hokey platforming and slightly sluggish combat. Another childhood game that touched my heart

      Editing … I've actually started #Kingdom Hearts on the PS2 about 10 years ago but for some real-life reason I never got into it. I will give it another shot though before I enter my PS4 era.
