Damn, I almost objected to the result of the European elections 2024, because the party I voted for got 0 votes in my election district. Which would be weird, since I voted for it, so it should at least be 1 (and no, none of the votes were invalid)! Turns out that the postal votes are counted seperately, and there the party has 1 vote. So it's all good in the end, I hope...

Well article 11 & 13 got passed in the EU. You Euro's better get your money to pay for links you post in the future. The Internet as a whole is gonna feel effects from this. I doubt big sites are going to just cut off the EU market so they will adjust the systems accordingly.

Who is the site owner now Husky? Whoever it is you're gonna want to look into this so you're not hit with fines from the EU or companies inside the EU when people post links to copyrighted stuff. You may have to suspend or cut all EU users loose from the site.

"A total of 11 countries voted against the compromise text proposed by the Romanian Council presidency earlier this week: Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Finland and Slovenia, who already opposed a previous version of the directive, as well as Italy, Poland, Sweden, Croatia, Luxembourg and Portugal. With the exception of Portugal and Croatia, all of these governments are known for thinking that either Article 11 or Article 13, respectively, are insufficiently protective of users’ rights."

YouTube CEO says EU’s new copyright legislation threatens jobs, smaller creators

Direct quote from Wojcicki's blog post:
"The proposal could force platforms, like YouTube, to allow only content from a small number of large companies. It would be too risky for platforms to host content from smaller original content creators, because the platforms would now be directly liable for that content. We realize the importance of all rights holders being fairly compensated, which is why we built Content ID, and a platform to pay out all types of content owners. But the unintended consequences of article 13 will put this ecosystem at risk."

In summary, the EU's version of YouTube could get fucked.

Children that young – who can be manipulated into sex so easily, since their psychological development isn't ready yet – should never have to say No. In fact, I've never heard that they have to. That's new.

They try to stick with it until it can't cope anymore and everyone decides it's time to call it a day. 3. They reform, give countries a bit more freedom and make it fair. We have two years to leave and if the EU offers us a fair deal to stay, give us back our freedom to do what is right then I'd vote to stay. I honestly can't see a fourth scenario where it stays as it is and survives 10 more years.
