BBC News
BBC News (also referred to as the BBC News Channel) is the BBC's 24-hour rolling news television network in the United Kingdom. The channel launched as BBC News 24 on 9 November 1997 at 17:30 as part of the BBC's foray into digital domestic television channels, becoming the first competitor to Sky News, which had been running since 1989. In May 2007, the channel became available for UK viewers to view through the BBC News website through a live stream. Saved!MrZAPEditing … 1. Why on Earth would I blindly trust the competence or journalistic standards of an anonymous blogger? 2. There have been numerous accusations of bias in both directions by various people over the years. While I won't deny that people are biased (obviously) the point is that it's in the BBC's mandate to be journalisticly independent of the government it serves, and there have been many times when the BBC has been confrontational with the current government (whomever they may be) about specific issues. 3. As a frequent listener of the BBC World Service who is also as far from a Tory supporter as you can get, I've never felt much in the way of Conservative bias. The coverage is generally comprehensive. I follow many different news sources and they're one of the best, up there with the likes of WaPo, NYT, and NPR. They're actually one of my favorites for world coverage. As it is the service has a great reputation among journalists generally as well as among a lot of people who follow the news.

Saved!MrZAPEditing … Yes, the BBC is government funded but they are meant to be independently run, and generally they do an okay job of that, and are reasonably transparent about their operating practices.
-
Saved!MrZAPEditing … I'm not saying they're perfect or free of bias, and I'm certainly not saying they should be enough by themselves; you should follow a number of sources to get a decent view of things. But they're generally reliable.

Saved!Husky WingEditing … The BBC themselves did a better job with the story though http://www.bbc.com/news/stories-43754737
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … Does that sound journalisticly independent of the government it serves to you @Husky Wing?
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … Personally I see the BBC in the same way I see Russia Today or Al Jazeera, and something I'm very wary of.
-
Saved!MrZAPEditing … It sounds like they messed up a lot in the Cold War, yeah. I'll agree that that vetting is unacceptable, but it's also pointed out to have stopped in the 90s.
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … Rubbish. The only time I heard about May cutting school meals for children was on Facebook, and I watch BBC breakfast every morning. Anything she doesn't want on the main news doesn't go on.
