I had this dream where I was playing Majora's Mask, except the game in the dream bore little resemblance to the real game. It maintained the time loop, but it was set on a small flooded globe, small enough that the player could see its curvature from the surface. Link started the game in an underwater city, and once he broke the ocean surface, he wouldn't be able to return to the city until completing the tasks on the handful of islands that littered the planet. I think these had to be completed in order, circling the globe and ending with an island that bore an advanced civilization responsible for Link's time loop. The island was completed when the player broke the loop, and also offered the player the choice to lower the water levels and bring the flood to an end. However, shortly after breaking the loop, an alien invasion would begin, with aliens flying classic flying saucers, and no one stood a chance of fighting back. The player wouldn't be able to respawn if the aliens killed them, as the time loop would be brought to an end, and they had no way to fight back. In the dream, this adventure felt half like a game, half like reality, so the alien threat was truly terrifying to me.

Because I'd lowered the water level, the underwater starting city was no longer safe when the aliens invaded, and everyone on the planet would be killed. My dreams tend to undo fatal mistakes like this, so the dream started the adventure over again, and this time when I reached the final island, I broke the loop, and didn't lower the flood. I knew exactly how long I had before the aliens would arrive (I forget now), and I had just enough time to save myself. I quickly headed to my rowboat to abandon the surface, and find the diving point above the underwater city. The decorative peak of a tall palace surrounding the city stood above the water, and by the end of the adventure I'd unlocked some technology that would allow me to dive to the ocean floor. It was unclear if I had a submarine, or a diving suit. The aliens started arriving just as I reached the diving point, and I could see their flying saucers break the atmosphere (since the planet was so small), and I quickly dove down so none would realize there were people hiding underwater. They had no objective of harvesting resources or establishing a colony, they were just here to wipe out all civilization and leave, like cartoon villains.

I remember it was tricky entering the palace surrounding the city, and I remember seeing wooden crates in the flooded entrance hall. When I got back home, I'd have to tell everyone to make sure we never alerted the surface to our presence. I woke up before reaching the city.

Some islands had no one on them, and some held small villages. Some islands would sink when they were completed, while others would rise from underwater when unlocked.
