Editing … I dislike Valve now, I'm so tired of them. Everyone loves Valve "oh they made Portal and Half Life etc etc. They don't make games anymore I'm convinced. Every once and awhile there are these cryptic little leaks for the last half a decade for games they might not even be making and then nothing happens nothing. I wouldn't be surprised if they're not making Portal 3, Half Life 3, or Left4Dead3. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if they literally aren't making any games right now.

Editing … We've seen earlier leaks of a L4D project, I'm sure it's happening. Valve didn't just make Source 2 for DotA!

Editing … Who knows they could release Portal 3, HL3, and L4D3 at once it wouldn't really surprise me. I'm all for devs talking as long as they need(Rockstar, Bethesda etc.) but either show something or go away until your ready to. This game they've been playing for 5-10 years is wearing real thin and to me comes off as pretentious. "Oh let's just leak this thing they'll eat it up, we won't have to say anything for another year, we can just make money off of CS crates and never have to make another game and they still love us"

Editing … It would most likely never happen but it would explain were they've been for so long. I mean it's been 12 years since a full Half Life game, 12! 5 since Portal and 7 since L4D. Not one of those takes even the 5 years it's been since Portal 2. We're have they been? 7-12 years is what you usually see for games in development hell, games that switch publishers or developers. That obviously hasn't happened here so where are the games? I might actually be convincing myself this is possible lol.

Editing … Valve used to deliver a decent volume of quality games, so this period of "just eSports!" is odd. I'm convinced they're trying to come up with something new--look at Valve's other games, and look at their behind the scenes. I don't think they'd be comfortable pulling a Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Battlefield. They probably want to be more fresh.

Editing … http://www.polygon.com/2015/3/18/8253189/gabe-newell-valve-half-life I just don't think they're interested. I think it could just be Steam, MP, microtransactions, VR and that's it. Why make games when you can sell crates of skins and people for some reason don't hate you like EA or Ubi.

Editing … I guess I have a bit too much faith in people who work in the industry, I imagine most of them actually care for their art form. For every Michael Bay, there's a Martin Scorsese (because there's only one of each). But what I mean is that these people chose this career for a reason. Some might realize it's not what they'd always dreamed of, but some are probably working to make their visions a reality. Look at Remedy-- I just can't imagine they're only in it for the money. They'd never do Alan Wake or Max Payne wrong just to make a quick buck, and Valve wouldn't do that with Gordon Freeman or Chell.

Editing … I recently heard Steven Spielberg give a speech, and from his history, it just seems so obvious that he actually cares about making art. Sure, there's EA, but I'd imagine that the studios working under them actually want to make great content.

Editing … Yea I'm usually more positive and trusting towards developers and publishers. I agree completely with your statement about studios under EA or any big publishers, people far to often lose sight of that and insult someone like Ubisoft as if it's one guy or one studio. Something about Valve is puzzling though can't quite put my finger on it.

Editing … I've heard that some issues at Valve are based around their lack of a hierarchy, so many products are created, then go nowhere (Steam features). Not sure how that'd affect games though. Do you think they're trying to make a game that'd be beyond our high expectations?

Editing … I think if they don't switch to a MP focused philosophy their next game will be one of their big three (Half Life, Portal, L4D) it has to be, if they come out after all this time and announce something that isn't one of those three no matter how good it may look people will be disappointed. I don't doubt that if they make a 3rd of one of their big 3 that it'd be good. But I fear that L4D and Half Life especially will suffer from what FF15 and The Last Guardian are about to suffer from, a hype so long in the making that it can't possibly live up to it. It's not that I doubt Valve makes good games I doubt that they even make games anymore lol.

Editing … I think L4D3 is next, due to it having the most solid leaks. I imagine they could deliver surprising new content for L4D3, but I have no idea what HL3 could contain. I suppose that's the magic of innovation, though. Here's hoping!

Editing … As crazy as it sounds I for some reason think they could announce all three at once in some event/conference thing. " I know you've been curious as to what were working on here at Valve and we thank you for your patience. Today we're excited to announce not 1, not 2, but 3 new games and here they are". I think they show L4D3 first a trailer and some gameplay it releases in a year (for the sake of the comment 2017). Then they show Portal 3, just a trailer, less than L4D3 release date 2018. Then at the end a teaser for Half Life 3 release date 2019. I'm sure it will never happen but something about it feels right, the internet would literally explode, just think of the hype if Valve had the balls and could do it.

What, Half-Life 3 was so critically acclaimed that metacritic created a new score called "Half-Life 3"?"
