Saved!Anyone playing anything? I have a real itching for a JRPG. I'm realistically going to be playing Kingdom Hearts 3 over the summer though, so that should be taken care of! Is there an RPG you guys are currently enjoying? Currently struggling to enjoy? Itching to play?

Saved!Husky WingEditing … i heard ff7's good
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … It is :)
-
Saved!MasterCrashEditing … I've been playing Persona 5 and KH 3D, probably gonna move to KH3 afterwards.
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … It's a shame I don't have time to replay more games actually. I would love to give FFVII another spin. It has so many awesome moments, and is just damn fun to play!
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … @MasterCrashh How are you finding KH 3D? I enjoyed it initially, but the "Dive" mechanic became tiresome and I never felt compelled to finish it.
-
Saved!MasterCrashEditing … I've been enjoying it decently, but yeah, I have to say that the dives are annoying. I rather just do the whole level straight with one char and then do it with the other rather than keep hoppin around
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … I'm borrowing Kingdom Hearts III tomorrow, and today is my last day of university before the holidays, so I am super excited to get into it.
-
Saved!MasterCrashEditing … My easter break starts today, but I probably won't be able to play much.
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … My Easter Break just finished, because Scotland is weird.
-
Saved!MasterCrashEditing … Ahahah a wat

Saved!Howdy folks? What are you all playing these days? :) Anyone else excited for the long-awaited launch of #Final Fantasy XV? Come chat Jrpgs with me! :)
-
Saved!UltyEditing … Tomorrow i'll start playing #Dragon Quest Builders. Not really an RPG, but it'll keep me entertained until WoFF, Sun/Moon and XV come.
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … :O blasphemer!!! It's a more comfortable PSP, also known as "the greatest rpg machine ever!!!"
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … Nah, you can't carry that around with you :p The SNES doesn't have Persona 4 or Final Fantasy VII-IX either!
-
Saved!Dr EggnogEditing … Exactly, PS2 is best RPG machine. Even the big SNES RPGs like Final Fantasy IV-VI and Chrono Trigger have ps1 versions.

Saved! If you were to imagine your perfect RPG, what elements would it have?
Mine would ideally be turn-based combat featuring a bar displaying 'turn order'. Enemies would appear on the field and battles would be "seamless" a la Chrono Trigger. Combat would focus on a rock-paper-scissors mechanic of elemental weakness/ attack types. All characters should be able to participate in battle via real-time swapping in and out. Characters would have abilities unique to them and they would each develop them in different ways. They would all ideally have their own character-building quests based around upgrading said abilities. There would also be a "base-building" mechanic with merchants and the like being recruited throughout the quest. If possible, it would be nice to play the villain. Not an "I will destroy the world" villain, but a character/characters that are doing what they feel is right, but causes the world to rise against them. One of the most interesting parts of Final Fantasy X was when you are branded heretics and the temples and priests rise against you. The normally peaceful towns suddenly became dangerous and unwelcoming, as the once friendly Yevonites were replaced with tough Boss Battles.
What would your guys dream RPG include? :)-
Saved!NodleyEditing … But in all seriousness, I wouldn't mind the world map like FFXII but a bit bigger, with enemies on screen etc. Seamlessly entering the battles would be cool and obviously auto-run which they fixed on the PS4 version. Apart from that it's perfect.
-
Saved!Gries HeEditing … My dream RPG would be a new, modern Secret of Mana game with the artstyle of Ori and the Blind Forest
-
Saved!Gries HeEditing … Yes, until I got stuck at a bossfight jn the second half of the game and couldn't be arsed to run around in circles for another 10 hours. I wish there were a cheat code that levels me up to lvl 99 or something
-
Saved!rockshard PhDEditing … My dream RPG was the one I was going to make. I planned for it to have tcg elements combined with traditional exp/leveling. It's the ultimate mechanical orgy. P.s. I dislike elemental systems. The idea of being the villain is a cool one tho.

Saved! We all love JRPG's, but the term itself covers a broad range of game types So what is your favourite sub-genre? Is it the strategy-rpg, action-rpg's, dungeon-crawlers, monster-hunter style games, or some mash-up of them all?
I personally am not well-versed in many of them, instead sticking to traditional turn-based Rpg's. I really enjoy games with a monster-raising focus though :)-
Saved!UltyEditing … Most of my favorites are turn-based, but today if I have a choice between WoFF and FFXV...i'd pick XV without even hesitating.
-
Saved!LizardTaroEditing … CTB (FFX) / ATB (FFIX) / Turn-based (Mario & Luigi) is the only way to go.
-
Saved!UltyEditing … Turn based is great, I love it, but Action has way more potential and is also much more envolving for the player. You don't just have to take your moves into account, you also have to think about positioning, timing, pacing, reflexes and skill. One thing is to prefer turn based, another one is saying it's "the only way to go" which is undermining Action's potential alot.
-
Saved!LizardTaroEditing … I really hate "action"-oriented RPG games. Tactics is what I consider most important in an RPG. Positioning, timing, pacing and reflexes are for pure action-adventures. Not for RPGs. At least not in my book. To each their own, I guess.
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … The main reason I'm not big on action-RPG's is that I love action games like God of War, Devil May Cry as well as a good deal of other hack and slash games. I feel like most of the action-rpgs I've played would have benefitted from going further towards pure action. They don't seem to have the strategy of other Rpg's or the fluidity of hack and slash, instead being some poor mixture of both. There are exceptions obviously
-
Saved!UltyEditing … But JRPG's are not big on tactics...at all. You have Fire Emblem and FF Tactics for that, which are SRPG's. And I disagree with the notion of them benefitting by going full action, because the examples given are pretty tedious after awhile. God of War and Devil May Cry are awesome games, but in no way are they better than something like Kingdom Hearts or Dark Souls. I guess the perfect balance between both is FFXII, which had one of the greatest battle systems ever designed.

Saved!Dr EggnogEditing … Out of those I own Cthulhu Saves the World, Nier, Persona 3 and 4, Pokemon Yellow, Pokemon X, Recettear, and Ys The Oath in Felghana. And there are some I owned in the past.
-
Saved!SandvichEditing … I see a shameful, shameful lack of Mario RPGs. And no Dragon Quest VIII. And if you're going to include games like Costume Quest then South Park is another glaring omission.
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … Told you I would have missed one or two :p I shall add South Park post haste. Yea, I am not really a Mario fan. At all :p And I've never played the Dragon Quest games because they seemed very archaic and slow. At least that's the Impression I got.
-
Saved!DoubleagentEditing … You should acquire and play Pokémon Black / White as it's the best one of the series by far. Play it on hard mode if you have someone to unlock it for you.
-
Saved!SandvichEditing … Mario RPG's are nothing like conventional Mario games. The original SNES title was even developed by Square, and the Paper Mario games by the team behind Fire Emblem. If you've tried them and didn't care for them then fair enough, but ten years ago I never would have expected to enjoy them as much as I have, with Thousand Year Door topping my JRPGs list. And DQ8 is just wonderful. It's one of only two games in the series made by Level 5. It's like their practice run for Ni No Kuni, only better.

Saved!Greetings fellow grinders!
I am in search of a short JRPG with which to begin my "A Ton of Games" quest. Any good RPG's spring to mind that don't require 50-100 hours to play? :)
Answers on a postcard! (Or preferably just reply below! :D)-
Saved! Not ImportantEditing … Secret of Mana if you haven't played it. It's not short, but less than 30 hours.
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … Thanks @Not Important I will try and get Secret of Mana running on my PSP. But that's a little too fiddly for tonight, so I may start up something else :P It will get played at some point though, I have almost 90 to get through anyway. I shall compile a list of JRPG's I own to help out :)
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … Thanks @Fincher, but I will be waiting till I can get a hold of the remake before I play that one :)
-
Saved! You should watch the new #Pokémon Soleil et Lune trailer! It's online. ;)
-
Saved!I missed you! :'( Don't leave me again!
-
Saved!I really enjoy building a hideout or "home base" in games. The Homestead in ACIII was one of it's most redeeming features for me. Does anyone know of any RPG's that employ this mechanic? :)
(And before you all start shouting at me to play #Suikoden, I WILL play through the first 2 games this year :P)-
Saved! Not ImportantEditing … Hideout building is the only thing that Witcher 3 doesn't have, if it had that, it'd be the perfect game.
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … MySims Kingdom on DS. Probably the greatest gaming experience of the 7th gen.
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … also underground bases in Pokemon Platinum, and hidden bases in RSE/ORAS
-
Saved!Rich .Editing … Fallout 4's the obvious one. Other than that I can only think of Dragon Age: Awakening and Skyrim with the hearthfire dlc.
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … @Husky Wing Well, I do enjoy the odd Sims game :P If I can find it cheap, I'll give it a whirl. In my short time with Pokemon Emerald, I found the idea of the hidden bases intriguing, but it wasn't very fleshed out :(
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … @richardpale Yea, the settlements in Fallout 4 did pique my interest, but I don't think I'm going to be picking that one up. I have Dragon Age: Inquisition though :)
-
Saved!Dr EggnogEditing … One time I played this card game collection on ps1. I don't remember the exact title, but the coolest thing about it is that you would use your winnings to decorate your apartment with stuff.
-
Saved! So, um, like, what do I play?
#Suikoden because I've been saying I was gonna play it for months? #The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky beause I was having fun with it? #Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 because I restarted it? Or how bout #Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 because I wanted to play it before Persona 5 came out. Hmm, then there is the backlog goal of completing all the #Final Fantasy games. Oh and #Final Fantasy Explorers, I just bought that recently. Mind you, there is also #Solatorobo: Red The Hunter that I was enjoying. #Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean seemed pretty good too. Then there was all those PSP rpg's I wanted to try. I got #Tales of Hearts for my birthday last year, maybe I should play that, but then I have already started #Tales of Graces so perhaps that first, or maybe one of the #Nippon Ichi Software games I've been stockpiling. #Radiant Historia looks good also, but if I am going to play a 3DS game, maybe it should be #Bravely Default, as I've just borrowed that. Ahh, but then I was in the middle of getting the platinum trophy for #Final Fantasy X-2, that could be fun. Or how about........
Yeah, having tons of games is cool and all, but I need some direction :P-
Saved!free fallEditing … Bravely Default because you borrowed it. Then finish Trails in the Sky and then play Suikoden!
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … That seems like a sound plan. I dislike keeping borrowed games for too long :P
-
Saved!Leya KathEditing … 1 - Suikoden, You just have to play it! :D Recruiting 108 character, the caslte growing when you have more fellows is greatly enjoyable. 2 - Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean, I never finished it though but the gameplay is interesting and even though the characters are not really attractive, the landscapes are awesome. 3 - #Bravely Default, didn't finish it either, didn't go far tbh but I need to continue it. 4 - #Final Fantasy X-2 because I'm enjoying playing #Final Fantasy X so I think I'll enjoy this one as well ^^
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … Maybe I should just quit my job :P That'd give me more time to play games. I could see how many I could complete before I become homeless, haha
-
Saved!Leya KathEditing … I wouldn't recommend you to do that. You'd probably have fun for maybe a few months, but after that... xD
-
