Every time I play this game it makes me fall in love with the franchise all over again. And to be fair, besides three entries, I love them all. Origins looks awesome, so I can't wait to try it. Gotta try Syndicate first though, but that's a ways off. Still replaying them all and I STILL haven't finished 2 XD Although I am now on the second DLC, so not long to go now! :)

Editing … The Origins trailer actually got me excited to return to series for the first time in a while. I gave up on Black Flag, because the ship combat was pissing me off too much, and I was getting absolutely sick of tailing missions, and haven't returned to the series since. I probably won't retry Black Flag, due to the ship battles, but I may actually try Unity and Syndicate at some point, in preparation for Origins, because the new combat looks pretty sick!

Editing … Rogue's story was definitely a lot more interesting than Black Flag's. I'd actually say Unity is underrated, hated for its launch disaster more than anything else. I found the AnvilNext games after III to lack polish in the animations and combat department, and Unity, post-patches, is honestly more polished than they are. Only bug I can recall experiencing was one time I got stuck in a wall, and as an open world game, one bug in over 30 hours is perfectly acceptable. Hell, I fell through the floor once per Mass Effect game. Yeah, every single one of them.

Mysteries to solve, some with zero map markers. The combat wasn't changed very much from previous games, guess they made it a little bit harder, but it's still the basic one-man-army easy kill combat.

It's quite enjoyable, and the multiplayer is a wonderful experience (except one single two-player mission that never worked well for me. As a pirate game it was great, but as an AC game it was abyssmal. Tailing mission after tailing mission, pretty much zero connection to the actual Assassin's Spoiler You don't become an assassin till the last couple hours of the game and pretty much nowhere to free-run. In fact, the tailing missions are so prevalent there is a mission where you tail someone while sailing a f***ing goddamn pirate ship. Is there anything really essential in its modern day plot, that I would be missing out on if I skip it, or am I fine? From what I remember, it was just wandering around in an office, but is there anything more to it? Because between ship battles and endless tailing missions, I don't want to give it another go just to get burnt out again.

Rogue ties directly into Unity, I think you'll very much enjoy playing both of them, and in either order. However, since Rogue is using AnvilNext and Unity is on AnvilNext 2.0, you will feel a technical downgrade if you go from Unity to Rogue. And that Unity "parkour down" button, mmm.

Are they at least minimized compared to Black Flag> Because that game felt like it overused them, compared to III where I was actually liking them, because they were fairly minor. In fact, it's a controversial opinion, but III is actually my second favorite, behind II, with Brotherhood being close behind. Those are the three AC games I've played so far where the good qualities greatly outweighed any problems I had with them, where the original, Revelations and Black Flag all seemed like mixed bags to me.

The two protagonists system seems cool, and the combat looks way smoother than Unity from what I've seen in videos, though. Sometimes the arcadey abiliy to do a 180 on the spot just feels better than realism. As for its PS4 performance, Unity's a great case of how the 8th-gen consoles really didn't give us a leap we needed. Syndicate's two protagonist system is a cool feature, but between the two of them, you still have less customization than Ezio did as a single character. The Frye twins are among the less interesting AC protagonists, but they have their moments. Jacob's highlights don't come until the end of the story, whereas Evie outshone him for most of the game.
