The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead is an American horror drama television series developed by Frank Darabont, based on the comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard. Andrew Lincoln plays the show's lead character, sheriff's deputy Rick Grimes, who awakens from a months-long coma to confront a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies. Grimes reunites with his family and becomes the leader of a group he forms with other survivors. Together they struggle to survive in and adapt to a world filled with zombies and some humans who are even more dangerous than the zombies themselves.

Saved!Really enjoyed the first third of the final season. They went back to focusing on the good characters and kept the pace moving. They might actually turn this sinking ship around in the end after all.
-
Saved!First three or four episodes of this season were pretty garb, but things are picking up again, imo. Not sure I was ready for the ending this week and what it means for a certain character, though :(
-
Saved!SandvichEditing … My most positive takeaway across the last 20+ episodes of this show has been realizing Enid was in Too Many Cooks.
-
Saved!SandvichEditing … Does anybody go for the kill with main characters anymore? This season has been all fucking around and mugging for the camera and "I'm gonna kill you slowly, oops you got away," and "It's your lucky day, I'm gonna give you a second chance!" Judging from the zombie bite at the end and Aaron's boyfriend, the only way you can get a character death on this show now is if it's off-screen.
-
Saved!Dr EggnogEditing … The show lost me season 2 and all I'm hearing is it gets worse.
-
Saved!SandvichEditing … It's all of the problems with the last 3 seasons of Game of Thrones amplified, though I will maintain that Season 3 of TWD was legit good, and I mostly liked Season 6 outside of some serious "Oh FUCK OFF!" moments.
-
Saved!Dr EggnogEditing … I liked Game of Thrones a lot more than TWD. I really enjoyed the first three seasons of GoT, then season four bored me and I stopped watching. TWD I only enjoyed episodes 3-6 of season one and the first five episodes of season two and then it lost me.
-
Saved!SandvichEditing … GoT is loads better, but the last three seasons have had touches of character stupidity, writer's fiat, contrivance, moronic battle strategy etc. But TWD is that except all the damn time. "Okay, we're going to hide among this thick foliage so we can ambush that convoy of vehicles chasing us. Say, there's dense forest on both sides of the road, maybe half of us should dig in on the other side so that when the shooting starts they can't use their vehicles for cover! Oh shit, too late! Well good thing we have a man on the inside who can blow his cover and single-handedly gun down all his associates!" That's just one minor example.
-
Saved!ExplojinEditing … They tried to turn the show into a long action movie this season. The actors don't have the acting chops for it and they don't have the production value so a lot of those scenes were laughable. I did really enjoy the final episode though. They reeled it back in and Riggs had a good episode.

Saved!I swear the writers aren't even trying anymore. "Okay, Negan is standing out in the open, Rick and co. have him in their sights, they're no more than 20 yards apart from each other. Rick opens fire with a burst from his assault rifle, but Negan survives by.... er, oh. Hmm, we've actually written ourselves into a corner with this stupid scenario, haven't we? I know! He ducks and weaves! Ha, nailed it!"
Ooh, but that action sequence! They certainly showed those dilapidated windows who's boss! Move over Hans Gruber, you never made shooting glass as cool as Rick's crew!
And what was with those flash-forwards and non-linear scene progression? What could this possibly add up to? It's so fucking lame I don't think I can find the words anymore! And a huge swath of the fanbase STILL aggressively defend it. "If you were a true fan you'd know this is the best show evah! If you don't like it then go back to watching the Big Bang Theory, nyeh nyeh nyeh! We don't need your negativity! Fuck you!" I mean JEZUS, these twits are tetchy!
I'm curious to know what the viewership was, but whatever it is, I'm certain this season is going to dip below the 10 million mark. Fuck, 2017 has been one of the worst years for television in recent memory!-
Saved!Filly VanilliEditing … I didn't care for the episode's constant action at the expense of actual plot progression and meaningful, interesting dialogue. Supposedly this was the writers' answer to the complaints that last season was "too slow," but if this is the upcoming trend for the show, they might lose me.
-
Saved!SandvichEditing … LOL, Sunday had 11.4 million viewers, a five year low for a series premiere. I mean, respect, I don't think anything I create will ever by viewed by 10+ million households, but they're losing viewers fast. This reminds me of Star Trek in the early 20-aughts, particularly with the easily angered fanbase. I mean this show has loyal core audience, still makes enough money for a huge budget by TV standards, has a fairly talented cast, truly exceptional production designers, and the writers are just asleep at the wheel.
-
Saved!SandvichEditing … Over the years there have been lots of exchanges of "Episode was too slow!" "No, they're just being artful and introspective and b-b-b-beautiful! I watched it three times and i cri evrytiem!!!" The real matter is they suck at both, or at least they do now. Glen Mazarra must have been the glue holding the show together, because Season 3 wasn't perfect, but it was well paced. There weren't any episodes where the plot just spun its wheels, or where we were forced to spend an entire episode filling in the backstory for some character we don't give a fuck about. Good TV can advance the plot and the characters at the same time. All of my favorite series do this, Deadwood, the Wire, the Americans, Game of Thrones etc. The Americans doesn't need to do an entire episode focused on Margo Martindale's oh so tragic backstory that's totally divorced from all of the other ongoing plot threads. But when you point this out, the fan drones come out and whine "You just want mindless action every episode! This episode was fantastic! It had four different scenes of characters walking off alone to cry next to a tree! BRILLIANT!"

Saved!Last episode was great.
-
Saved! These last two episodes have had some odd greenscreen effects in places that really didn't need it. Where's the budget gone? (To Shiva? That tiger's no Life of Pi-level CGI, but it is a looker)
However, Rick's change in attitude and the Daryl/Carol stuff is showing a major return to form, to the glory days of, say, season three. Maybe things are looking up.-
Saved!Splatterhouse 5Editing … I think this season is doing the source material justice, even though I think Rick and Michonne have very poor romantic chemistry. Jeffrey Dean Morgan (as Negan) has been pretty awesome.

pre-season 6 spoilers
SpoilerI really didn't like Carol since... well, not long after Sophia died. It felt like they were focusing so hard on making Carol their Strong Female CharacterTM that they didn't want to show her being vulnerable or, well, human at all. Maybe that's harsh, considering this--this impenetrable, stone, uncaring facade--may just be how some people respond to the amount of trauma and heartbreak she's endured, but I didn't find her likable or terribly interesting. She was really one-dimensional. HOWEVER, with these last few episodes, they're finally showing a side of her that's very raw and believable. So that's why she's on my top 10 now.
