It has similar group chat mechanics to Discord, supporting text and voice chat, as well as multiple channels (I never use the channels feature though). You don't need to use their app or provide a phone number. The culture probably leans mostly toward using text chats, so lots of people might not have much interest in having group voice chats, but maybe your friends will be into it.
