So I finally got to try out VR for the first time today, and it was pretty much exactly as I expected. That is to say, very underwhelming compared to what the VR evangelists would have you believe. It's just a screen that doesn't end, but I didn't feel like I got whisked away to a different world, and I certainly didn't drop my jaw.

The demo was a rollercoaster ride through Tokyo. Don't remember what it was called, but it was created with Unity and ran on Oculus. Perhaps something more high fidelity would've been more impressive. I felt a little wobbly when the rollercoaster went straight down so I grabbed the table just in case, but other than that I was perfectly fine standing up.

So far this seems like it'd be my preferred way to play full-length first-person games once companies actually start committing to those (I guess Bethesda is porting Fallout 4 to Vive? That'd be cool), and I'll definitely pick up a PlayStation VR at some point, but I hardly view this as the future of gaming, or the downfall of humankind as we feed ourselves though an IV and have someone come change our adult diaper. For me it's just another way to play games.

Editing … I can imagine POV horror games being an amazing experience on VR, just imagine how #P.T. would've been :O Other than that, I think i'd be very underwhelmed as well.
