Apparently I own a PS4 copy of this now. A mate of mine got me #Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor for Christmas and I hadn't had time to play it until recently (I near enough quit gaming until I finished my degree a few weeks ago). I just opened up the box for the first time and found a Mortal Combat disc instead.

Editing … I think I would've preferred Shadow of Mordor but ah well, I'll give MK a go.

Editing … Shadow of Mordor is a lot like Assassins Creed and a bit like the Arkham games. You like the Arkham games, or at least some of them if I recall correctly and I think you spoke highly of AssCreed II at some point. You might have liked it, but it's a really big lore rape. Then again, you preferred the movies to the books, so maybe you don't mind lore rape :D SoM is fun, but it gets dull after a while. The nemesis system, while not perfect, is fun to mess around with.

Editing … Well, after playing a couple of hours of MK I'm pretty sure I like it less than Tekken/SF/Virtua. Maybe I'll see if I can trade in MKX and get an actual copy of Shadow of Mordor, I'd be up for a LotR themed AC clone and if it's reminiscent of Arkham as well it should be good fun.

Editing … What? That's bizarre. Was it a second hand copy? Weird that they're both Warner Bros games. Oh, and it's Mortal KOMBAT, ya foolish klod.

Editing … Bundle Stars has had a sale on the GOTY edition of SoM for something like 6 months. Not sure what it's going for in pounds but currently it's going for $12.49 CAD. If your CPU can handle it I'd say the PC version is the way to go. I enjoyed it a lot more at 60 fps, and I'm pretty sure the PC version puts a lot more orcs on screen at once which can be a pretty cool sight.

Editing … And SoM isn't "a bit like the Arkham games." In terms of the combat it's practically copy-pasted and reskinned with a LOTR theme. It's not just X to attack, Y to counter. B stuns and can be followed up by a "beat-down" attack, A A vaults over enemies, Y+B is an instakill, X+A is and AoE attack, X+Y executes all stunned enemies in the area. Even some of the skill upgrades are copy-pasted, with upgrades like "Special attacks become available after an x5 combo instead of x8." It's so shameless at times it's downright amusing. Still, just about every open-world beat 'em up these days seems to have copied Arkham's combat, so at least SoM did it right.
