Think Korean films are just weird and "arty" like Oldboy or 3-Iron? Think again. Shiri is about as big and blockbustery as Korean films get, but ironically it was Shiri's massive success (along with Park Chan-wook's brilliant directorial debut JSA) that set the ball rolling for the Korean New Wave of the early 00s, something which I happen to rate very, very highly. Anyway, this movie? It's alright. It's not as good as Kang Je-Gyu's next one (Brotherhood), but it does deserve some recognition for kickstarting the careers of Song Kang-Ho and Choi Min-Sik, two of the best actors anywhere in the world ever. Period.
