A system update was just released for the Switch that won't let me play any games without first updating my primary Switch. Nintendo just seriously fucked me over. I had over 25 hours in my Pokemon Shield playthrough, 3 gyms completed, Isle of Armor completed, and countless pokemon caught *in multiples* including 6+ each of Croagunk, Staryu, Heliopile, the sand castle pokemon, 4 Sudowoodu, Maractus, Hoothoot, etc, etc.

Even despite that I would strongly consider formatting my system and starting over as the primary system just so I could keep playing today, except that there's no guarantee that it would even let me do that, so I'd be permanently erasing my save file for nothing. So I shouldn't do anything reckless. I have a PSP somewhere, maybe I can fall back on that.

Even before this happened I was wondering if it was possible to designate your secondary Nintendo Switch system into your primary one without having to lose all save data on it. But I figured there was no rush. I was perfectly fine using this Switch as a secondary even though it requires you be on wifi 24/7 but as of today Nintendo put a stop to that.

Editing … uhh...imagine if google completely without warning locked everyone out of their gmail/yt account until they go and update every device they own. And husky would be like "wait so what's the problem". You wanna know the problem? The problem is up until today I was able to play Pokemon just fine (provided I was on wifi) whereas now when I try to boot up the game it says: "Sure thing, just go find your other Switch, charge it, update it, then get back here. I'll wait"

Editing … I thought you might say like, your first Switch was missing and this update requirement made it impossible to play Pokemon, or there was an important reason for staying on your chosen firmware version (like for cfw--though current Switch cfw relies on a hardware exploit, works with any firmware version). Also your savegame might be on the SD card, or could be transferred to an SD card, if you ever do wanna format the Switch for any reason and wanna keep your savegames.

Editing … There may be ppl out there whose first Switch is missing or non working. (I hear it's possible to brick a Switch simply by not using it for over a year) That or they bring their second switch with them on a trip and find out the very first day of the trip that they can't use it. Statistically speaking, both of these are very likely occurrences given how well the Switch sold. A lot of people got inconvenienced today. Some of them probably reacting to this worse than I am. Also, if it's a family, you can't guarantee the parent who bought the consoles isn't going be fuming because of this even if the kids are ok with it, or vice versa. Somehow I imagine Nintendo is "finding out" a lot today. (or at least the poor souls hired to work their customer service department)

Editing … Husky did you hear about the Switch 2 having improved performance for Switch 1 games, notably Scarlet/Violet? Legends Z-A is also straight up getting a Switch 2 port. For like two seconds I was actually wondering if I should put off playing the Switch 1 versions of those games altogether. But like.. there's absolutely no way I am getting a Switch 2 that would just be crazy. I guess it just feels weird how the Switch 1 is no longer the definitive way to play Switch 1 games all of a sudden. =s

Editing … I had this idea once that I should just treat the Switch as a way to play Pokemon games nothing else, and ignore everything else on it, but it seemed unrealistic that I'd possess the resolve to actually go through with that. However since starting a second Shield playthrough it starts to seem like it was the right plan all along.

Editing … I'm surprised you don't enjoy very many other games, but I think I have fairly narrow taste in games. Just not as picky as you (is there a way to word that which doesn't sound derogatory? Pretend I did that). My movie tastes are a lot more broad.

Editing … PSP gaslit me into thinking I like everything after all, and that previous systems just failed to engage me on the same level. I liked a wide variety of games on it. Switch is the opposite. Everything automatically becomes bad on it, it's like its superpower. But the gaming landscape changed a lot since the PSP and that's a problem as well. Every catalog nowadays is flooded with indie shovelware. Even when a major game is ported to Switch, it's treated as an afterthought, they often don't even map the buttons correctly. Hell, even indie devs view the Switch as an afterthought, and care about their Steam versions more.

Editing … "You don't own a hackable Switch, right? Very cool for solving every problem." One time I asked the gbatemp boards if hacking a Switch lets you remap volume buttons, adjust brightness in fixed increments, and have button remappings tied to specific games so your controls aren't fudged up any time you play a different game or use the home screen. The answer was no to all three. So it doesn't seem like hacking a Switch solves any problem really.

And chances are I would hate those games today. (Dark Forces vibed hard tho and had great audio) I once thought project aces should make an X-Wing game.
