It may be once again time to reconsider getting a gaming PC. I've still never owned one but am I really missing out?

I probably wouldn't take full advantage of it and only play cringe games. Tabletop Simulator might be one of the better things I'd use it for.
I could play C&C4 finally but that's probably going to be rubbish. That voxel graphics RTS by the former C&C devs looks neat though. (8 Bit Armies)

The thing I would most want it for is to play Need for Speed Prostreet via PS3 emulator or maybe just the superior PC version. But it seems doubtful that the experience would actually be better than playing it on console. If I'm actually willing to start over with a fresh save file then playing it on Xbox 360 is in all likelihood the vastly better choice.

Editing … I have no idea what I'd play on it. But that's natural. The games I play on handheld are often games I wouldn't imagine being my favorites. (e.g. Pokemon on Switch) It would be doubly so on PC where I have played nothing on in decades. Most likely I'd spend my first week or so netflix syndroming by just browsing Steam and checking out demos / adding to wishlist until I find something that clicks. This process does not sound appealing however.

Editing … Also, regarding your last comment. I could almost see myself doing away with the laptop altogether. (Touch keyboards are perfectly fine to me. I'm not a novelist.) But if I did this I'd have no way of adding games to my PSP, and as long as I own a PSP, not being able to switch games on it would be kinda weird. Unless I decide on one set of games to play forever, which honestly could happen. (Juiced Eliminator)

Editing … It depends. If I use my laptop a lot, but never do anything meaningful on it, then it might be worth it to upgrade. On the other hand, if I get a PC only to play videogames, then perhaps an Xbox 360 or Switch are better options. By the way.. I made one miscalculation earlier.. I definitely should not use the PC to play anything that requires a gamepad such as racers or emulators, because then it's just a console with extra steps. I should use it only for games that use a mouse.

Editing … I was reminiscing and realized something. Ever since we got our first DOS pc all those years ago. Up until now. In all that time. I don't think I've ever done anything meaningful on any PC or laptop. (Aside from playing RTS games, and possibly creating a game in RPG maker which was excruciating.) The weight of this realization is just.. wow. To think I considered myself a technophile and now see if that it was all for naught. Are phones just better? It's less physically restrictive at least, and they do 99% of what a PC does. So maybe I just won't get a gaming PC ever. Maybe instead I'll make a move back to playing on consoles. (Which actually share some faults with PCs such as being cable heavy and requiring you sit exactly in that spot. but at least you're using it to playing sick games, while on laptop I realistically only ever used it to dick around on Twitter, watch insubstantial yt videos, and browse ebay)

I actually do a lot on my pc even if it's an "under powered" one. I've always had interest in programming and electronics and I also really need a keyboard and large screen to do that. "they do 99% of what a PC does." from your perspective yes. From my perspective: hell no.

Editing … I think my dad meant for me to become a programmer. When he first introduced me to videogames I think that was the end goal. That I'd become interested in tech and want to make games myself. Not to spend my days on message boards arguing about Sonic. In hindsight though I was perhaps never destined to be a coder. (Unlike my brother who is. He even worked at facebook for a while) Instead I'm looking more and more like those authors that use a typewriter to write novels instead of a computer. Or like Jerry Seinfeld, who writes using pen and paper. (Tarintino does that too I think) That's if I wrote novels that is. Or created anything. Which I don't. Is my ADHD that debilitating? Was I just meant to be a worker bee or something? I wonder.

Editing … "Was I just meant to be a worker bee or something? I wonder. " Do you want to bee one? I don't really believe people are destined to be one thing or the other. I used to think that when I was like 7 or something but I proved myself wrong many times. Sure people do have inborn tendencies and aptitudes, but that's not the full equation. You can adapt as well and a lot of the things you hated in school you only hate because you had a shit teacher or just wasn't ready to learn. The more I learn and challenge myself the broader my interests get and the more I like learning and creating (even though as a kid I did everything in my power to not learn). But you don't have enough time in your life do everything that seems interesting, so you have to choose what you want to spend your time on. One to three hobbies is more than enough I think. Most people are fine with only their job and watching netflix after, but that seems a bit sad when I think about it. Then you would never change or experience anything new. Just the same day over and over until you die.

Editing … Seems like you don't like programming, so at least you know that is one thing you don't want to spend your time on. I'm sure ADHD can be difficult when you want to focus on one thing for a longer time, but I've met people with ADHD that have learnt how to work with their brain or even make their ADHD into an advantage after cognitive behavioral therapy. So an ADHD diagnosis does not sentence you to be a goldfish forever if you really don't want to be one. If you have an interest in writing why not take it more seriously then? I find that making something instead of consuming all the time makes you feel more motivated overall. Maybe you'll even start going outside! ;-) But at first you will feel bored and most people just can't push through the boredom and will go straight back to scrolling or Netflix. Modern media is one hell of a drug.

Editing … I've never learned or was taught how to program so how would I know whether I like it or not? I assume I would be pretty good at it actually. The problem is that it involves sitting at a computer 24/7 while also being laser focused on a single task. It doesn't strike me as something that's practically feasible. The netflix prople you say are sad, but maybe that is the way. It's sad on paper only but possibly the best lifestyle in practice. But that's also just a theory. I'll have to figure this out for myself.

Nobody taught me either or even suggested that I should be interested in programming but I just knew I was. I've always wanted to know why my computer did the things it did. I don't think I'm particularly talented at it but if you have an interest in something talent does not matter because it fulfills you either way and it feels good when you improve even the smallest bit. Even if you have talent for something you still need to invest time and effort into that thing or even the most untalented but hardworking person will run circles around you and call you names.

Editing … I've never used RPG maker but I don't think you need to code to use it really. I think anyone can do some programming even you nod. To do it well though is a whole different story. We had an OG 70s programmer at art school who still knew assembly language (the language where you directly speak to the hardware have to tell the computer where to take a shit and dump the memory and how to wipe it's ass and wash it's hands). He could do anything and make your shitty code work again. He did it all his life and learnt to code with those weird paper punch cards on communal 70s computers. I can't imagine ever getting on that level. In comparison with him I'm just swimming in the kiddie pool and playing with inflatable toy numbers. I'm having a blast though. I'm perfectly happy swimming in the kiddie pool.

For me it would be work to watch a game, but lots of people find it fun of course. Even knowing all the football rules is work. Learning all the positions and the names of players and knowing their capabilities is work. It's all learn stuff, but you do it for fun in football manager.
