I started playing the definitive edition with a friend. It's kind of a wonky game, and its design is pretty outdated now, but in multiplayer those aspects of a game are often more enjoyable to mess with. We were able to fuck the physics engine into letting us drive trucks in areas that should be inaccessible to vehicles, which includes areas submerged in water. The game doesn't seem to have a swimming mechanic, so watery traversable areas are always shallow enough to drive through without drowning. I'm not sure there's any deep water in the game.

The game feels like a less feature-complete version of Dying Light, and I wouldn't play it solo again, but it's sure fun in co-op.
