Editing … I don't like how it looks visually. It's the apocalypse but everyone looks like a fashion model and well groomed. Then again, I guess that doesn't matter as long as the script is good.

Editing … oh hah, I thought it would be a game trailer and I was thinking to myself "wow, have graphics really become this realistic?" but then I saw that it was a movie and then I saw the cgi and then I thought to myself "wow, cgi has gotten very bad." How has cgi gotten worse over time. I see that a lot in movies today. Do they just not care to make it look good anymore?

Editing … One excuse given for CGI getting worse is that major studios insist on rushed post-production schedules. The VFX studios just don't have enough time to produce good effects. It probably doesn't help that we're using CGI in places where we used to always use practical effects. Lots of movies make me think "this would look so much better if they made this in the '80s."

Editing … David Fincher makes great movies, but with each film his movies look more and more synthetic, as he realizes he can accomplish more and more in post. It was kinda sad to look at The Killer, even though I enjoyed the movie. LED sets are also a pretty big step down from chroma screens, at least once you get used to spotting them.

Editing … The Killer was inspired by a French film called Le Samourai, so I guess I'll have to watch that one. Funny, I actually had the specific thought, "I bet this movie would've been better if it was a French movie from the '70s." It's from 1967, so like, I was close. I think the thought came to me because of The Conformist (Italian, but largely set in Paris).

Editing … yes practical effects must be quite costly but in most cases I really prefer it even if it's a bit "cartoonish" like in videodrome. It's just really stylish there. I like it when things are more theatrical like that. I saw a lot of practical effects in certain 80's samurai movies as well and those look very cool and trippy. It just works.

Editing … Honestly I think of the three Planet of the Apes film adaptations, the CGI trilogy is the ugliest. The 2001 apes have fantastic make-up, and the apes from the original films are amazingly expressive. Roddy McDowall's ape characters are the best (Cornelius, Caesar, and Galen in the TV show).
