Editing … today I cooked rice using a rice cooker, I plan to make this a regular thing. Just one problem though, what if I want to make rice again but didn't clean the rice pot from the last time? So I had this idea to buy one or more replacement rice-cooker-pots. (well that or own multiple rice cookers, but I don't see why when it's really just the pot that goes inside that I need) I'm on ebay now, most of them are from china... ours has a speckle pattern (black w white specks) but these are plain black. Somehow I imagine these black ones are inferior and loaded with edcs... meh.

I didn't used to be like that but I guess something of my anal and well brought up friend rubbed off on me somewhere and I think I personally like it more this way. I guess there was some sense in being sensible after all. Also if you live healthily you don't have to live an extra 10 years in the nursing home, you should be able to have extra healthy years. It's the unhealthy people that live miserably for the last 10 to 20 years of their life because modern medicine can keep them alive with their diseases on pills for a long time.

It's something I've thought a lot about since I accepted I'm now old. I want to live until I'm 83 like my grandad and go out quickly whilst still living at home and going to pub every Friday with my mates. I don't want to cling on in no nursing home with people wiping my arse and been on strict light on lights off like in prison. I'm going to eat mostly healthy but I'm eating that cheese too. Being old and helpless or worse, have alzheimers, terrifies me. I'd rather die at 70 than go later with that.

People are so unhealthy that they just start nursing home earlier. If you live well you spend less time overall in nursing homes. Just think about it, if you don't take care of something like bad posture now, you will live in pain at the end of your life but that pain could have been prevented by building good posture when you were younger. It is possible to age gracefully, just don't eat junk and stay active. My grandma is 93 and she still lives on her own. The only help she needs is cooking.

I still haven't cleaned the pot since the last time, and my mum refuses to clean it either. So rice is apparently something I'm can make exactly once, until I order more pots from china, which I am considering doing. Might as well tell me now before I do. Let me hear your thoughts on tofu as well. In one day, I ate two 14 oz containers raw straight from the package. I'm considering making that a thing. (P.S. If i buy the pots, I'd have to wash them first? The instructions usually tell you to do that before using a new appliance or pot/pan fpr the first time. Editing … The thing about cooking rice in a certain way like rice cookers do is only maybe a problem if you eat rice all the time so as long as you are not intending to eat in with every meal or every day I would not worry about a thing. Rice absorbs a good amount of arsenic from the soil. So if you cook it like most people will do "add only the necessary amount of water and let it boil dry" you get all of the arsenic in the rice, but if you wash it and cook it like pasta (in a large amount of water) and then drain the excess water you get rid of a bout 50% or the arsenic. But then it does not get sticky and tasty so you should just eat it the way you like if you don't plan on doing a rice only diet. But if you don't care about the stickiness you might as well cook it like pasta.

Editing … TLDR: Tofu is good. It is a food. You will not grow tits.---- Tofu is great and yummy. That is my opinion and all you really have to know. But here we go. Tofu and other soy products in general are great and healthy contrary what many bro scientists will have you believe. I don't know exactly why people started to demonize this particular bean but I have my suspicions. Maybe it has something to do with the gmo soy that is being grown and fed to cattle. That kind of soy does not seem that yummy to eat yeah so there I guess I agree. I also know bros are afraid of phytoestrogens but no, you will not grow tits from soy. Then I would have backpain right now. Phytoestrogens don't work like regular estrogens (that do give you tits). In fact it is actually protective against the influence of synthetic xenoestrogens from PCBs, BPA plastics because the phytoestrogens will sit on your receptors so the xenoestrogens can't get in and mess with you as much. But don't go and eat soy only. Eat it in the same amounts as any bean. Tofu specifically is more processed but it's still a very good option. I put it on bread in wedges or I just stirfry it with vegetables and seasoning.

Editing … Cooked rice a few times. I tried using brown rice too which I now prefer over white. It's not easy to take the pot out whike wearing oven mitts, so the method I devised was to use spoons to lift the pot partially and have it resting on the cooker while tilted. Then I put on oven mitts and take the pot off. Anyway... I noticed that the cooker produces really nasty fumes. There's this artificial smelling metallic/plastic musk that fills the air and it seriously irritates the skin on my face. It may be worse than gas. Never using it again. This reminds me of what happened with the egg cooker I bought, although the smell is more subtle this time. So I am wondering whether I should try buying a different rice cooker, either a different brand and preferably used one that has all the fumes used up. But it doesn't seem possible at this point. It's literally built in to the product. Like the plastic and metal. And the fact it heats electrically. So maybe I just won't bother. I still haven't tried the electric stove I bought (it's big btw!!) and am kind of afraid to now bc it probably also produces fumes. I also still need to try the microwaveable rice. Maybe I'll do that today.

But the rice cooker could maybe produce fumes from the non-stick tray, especially if you didn't wash the factory musk off of it. You always have to wash new non stick stuff. They say so in the manual. I try not to use non stick though, even if it's not teflon I still dont trust it and it's just made to throw away. Editing … Just an update. I tried the microwave rice and it's great. So easy. (once again, nice one, nod!) Incidentally however I started to doubt if rice is healthy. Because.. when I was using the rice cooker, afterwards I would use a wet napkin to wipe the inside of the pot, and it would end up mashing the rice stuck to the inside, and spreading it around, causing the inside of the pot to be coated in transparent sticky film. (lol gross) It was then it occurred to me, that's what it becomes once digested, which means that although having the appearance of solid food, white rice is basically just semi transparent slime. (On top of that I seem to become sleepy after eating it, but all warm food seems to do that.) But I also wonder if it causes blood sugar spikes. Seeing as how it becomes slime so easily, it probably gets absorbed very quickly by the body. Now, is brown rice any better? Given a choice I would prefer brown over white although I imagine it's only a slight improvement. P.S. Despite all that, I still plan to buy more of the microwave rice. Gotta have hot food. Buuut.. Amazon doesn't carry it no more. I'd have to get it from a third party seller. Whack. (did I buy the last one? lol)

Editing … That sticky film is litterally just starch. Starch is good for you. Your body needs it. If you hate it so much you can pre wash your rice and it will not be sticky at all but then you also wash all the joy out of life. But don't judge your food for how it looks when you digest it. It all comes out brown in the end. Also brown rice is lower on the glycemic index so if you are worried about that eat the brown rice, but since you don't have diabetes I would not worry about such things. What do you eat with the rice btw? I'm curious.

One time I didn't and it came out gummy afterwards which weirded me out. (Still good though and ended up eating it all) Then I googled it and was like "oh." I used to rinse lentils or peas before cooking but didn't really know why I had to. But w rice there is a reason, you need to wash some of the starch out. But, even if I do this, the rice pot is still a chore to clean and the sticky film still happens when I wipe the inside. P.p.s. I eat the rice by itself. Im trying to eat more plain foods. I plan to use that stove I bought to cook split peas in water nothing else. (Which I did once on gas.. shared it w my mum) I was considering boiled potatoes also but hell if I'm going to peel them.
