Happy Friday guys, another working week done. At least for us that don't work weekends.

What you guys been up to? What TV shows have you watched? I just finished season 5 of Lucifer, I'm starting the final season over the next few days. So far it's been an 8/10. It's completely random and even very rarely sometimes there's a crap episode but totally worth it long haul. The 6 or so main characters just have their own qualities and I had to watch to the end through the weird/not so good episodes.

You watched any good films lately? I watched an old Arnie film The 6th day and it was crap.

Anybody seen the new dragon series thingy yet, you know the ice wall winter is coming series? I'm not good on names unless I really care, I forget. I might try that one after Lucifer, I just hope it's not so long winded and full of politics. Claire loved it, me not so much, I thought it was mostly filler.

What about books? I just finished the Star Scavenger series. 99% of my books nowadays are entire series bought on offer for 99p on Amazon. There's no reason to pay more with the offers always available. I got like, 3 weeks of reading for 99p.( I only read after I go to bed then watch an episode of Lucifer then it's finally time to read). And I do that a lot, I must have 30 series of books I already picked up for cheap ready and waiting. You guys got any good series to recommend?

Editing … I found the godfather trilogy on vhs. I've never seen them. I want to wait for a good moment to watch them. It feels more special to watch some films on vhs. There is just something about watching a video on a tiny crt with someone. I hope I stay awake this time. I can never stay awake for most films.... Then again I really like falling asleep that way. It's like slowly slipping into a nostalgic coma/vegetative state.

Editing … I've become completely boring. No books or TV/film, just vidya is all I care about, but I haven't played anything in like half a year aside from MTGA. Maybe I shouldn't even try to fight it. If I play a game at some point down the line, that's great. If not, great. No pressure. I've had a good run and will enjoy the memories of the good games I've played. Though I still need to take screenshots of my cars, speaking of which, so there's a *bit* of pressure there, lol.

Editing … This is surreal. My life really doesn't revolves around videogames like it once did. I think I like it better this way. It does feel weird to have all these systems and not use them, but maybe I just need to undergo a shift in attitude. Forcing myself to use each thing I own regularly, or selling it if I am unable to or plan not to, is almost like a mental illness. Particularly for prized possessions, or things that weren't completely easy to come by. My limited edition Switch Lite w 400+ hour Pokemon save file. My CFW-ready frankenPSP made from three different units assembled together. (So it has the best dpad, analog, buttons, and screen of all three units) My OLED Vita with minimal L button squeak, and a scratched up screen so nobody else would really want it anyway. I'm satisfied just having them and the fond memories they provided me with. I'll sell only the things that are meaningless to me like the 3DS.

Editing … Gaming is a hobby meant to do when you want to have fun for a bit. It’s not a job or obligation. I don’t think you have to plan in an obligatory gaming session just to justify owning the systems. I have a lot of systems that I have not used in 3 years but a day may come that I do want to use them again and I keep them for those moments. I don’t think you have to feel guilty for not using them. I have also gone long periods without gaming but later I wanted to play again. It’s just a feeling. If you don’t have a feeling that you want to play why would you play?

Editing … For me gaming has become a list of things I need to get around to doing but don't necessarily look forward to doing. Hooking up this console or that, selling this game or that, getting CFW set up, taking consoles apart (yes, really), using the capture button to take screenshots (just as often to complain as to actually save the parts that matter to me), trying out demos like a boy scout in order to properly give those games a chance, getting through my backlog, and after a certain point, it's even become about putting my thoughts in my user reviews. (again, often to complain) Gaming for me has become about all that stuff and less about the actual playing.

Editing … I've lately developed a weird fixation on my custom characters too. Like, to an extent it feels like *their* playthrough and I'm merely here to fulfill it. It's one of the most rewarding aspects of videogames on one hand but it also takes away from the relaxation on the other. Becomes something I need to do, rather than want. But maybe that's ok. Because this is like, the antithesis of a casual playing something completely frivolous like Solitaire or Candy Crush simply to kill some time. So, good for that. I shouldn't want to have it any other way.

Editing … Sounds like you’ve been playing too much and just need a break from gaming for a bit. It works like that for me at least. The less time I spend playing the more I genuinely enjoy it when I do play. It’s like the 1st beer vs the 10th beer conundrum. “Becomes something I need to do, rather than want. But maybe that's ok.” What? No not okay. I get that some parts of games feel like a chore to get through but it’s still your choice to knuckle through because you want to experience what the game is like. But if you’re knuckling through just because you think you have to out of habit, something is out of balance. Go for walks and touch some squirrels if that is the case. Also secretly there is a casual gamer inside every hard-core gamer dying to come out. Don’t try to fight it. You’re just fighting yourself and yourself is stronger than you.

(let's pretend Arena hasn't launched yet) You literally have to go and leave the house bc you want to play, and it must be at whatever date and time the LGS or event organizer decided. It's an awful lot of trouble to go through. I don't see what's wrong with what. People do it bc doing it is more exciting than not doing it. It's precisely what seems to be going on right now between me and games.

Editing … What? I don’t get it then. You said you were having a play through with a custom character. Are you then not actually playing but just thinking about the character or something like that? Or you just are interested in the concept of gaming? Or you like the gaming lifestyle? But then if you enjoy that instead of gaming why do you still want to want to play games? Is it that you used to enjoy playing more and you wished that were the case now? Or you find it too much work to hook up your game stations and start a game? I’ve gone years without games and I could only enjoy them after such a long period of time. Maybe a break from gaming is also taking a break from thinking about anything gaming related?

Editing … using Pokemon Shield as an example. It's become a really downbeat and grindy experience for me. To the point where I no longer feel compelled to play it at all. But I would have liked to see how my trainer's story ends, so I may end up forcing myself. Another example is Phantasy Star Portable 2. The game is kind of bad, really. (But I feel bad saying this since it's still heads and shoulders over most ARPGs) And I've already beaten it once. But I have to play it again because I'm playing the english patched Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity which includes the entire base game, and bc my character in it is much better than the one I originally played through the game with, so I have to play through the game in order to retcon, and in order to be able to start playing Infinity. Oh and an aside, I like the JP voices, so it's nice to be able to experience that too, even though it means having to wade through hours of tedious inventory management.

Editing … Okay so you can’t recognise when you are mentally done with a game and you think you should like or play all the games of specific franchises? It almost sounds like you feel guilty towards a game for not liking it enough or for not experiencing all of the possibilities. Maybe you feel a sort of loyalty (*cough*fanboy *cough*)? I guess I can imagine feeling that way or wanting to play all instalments of a franchise. But although I can understand it it’s not the relationship I would want to have with games. A game has no feelings and the developers don’t even know you exist so there is no one to feel guilty towards (not that you should feel guilty even if games had feelings and the developers saw you playing. If you don’t like a game you don’t like a game and that is that). Then do you feel mad at yourself for not liking a game as much as you feel like you should like it? Are you disappointed in some games? Do you expect a certain experience from a game and when it does not deliver you can’t bring yourself to accept that? You just don’t want to believe you actually think it sucks? I think you have the right insight though with the “I totally don't have to buy it.”. That is completely true. Who told you you have to buy a game you are not even looking forward to? You are not obliged to play or buy anything. You don’t owe the game or the developers or the franchise anything.

I think you’ll figure out what you want soon enough. :-P Also why would you ever get a switch light if you can get a normal switch and also attach it to a large screen? I thought only kids got a switch light because it’s cheaper and they are not allowed to play for long periods on the tv and kids are dumb shits. Even if you prefer handheld gaming, just having the option to play it on a large screen is nice and the handheld experience is also superior because you can set the screen down and use the loose joycons to play and sit more comfortably.

Editing … Blah. Typical console-user narcissism. =P Maybe we should just agree to disagree completely and leave it at that. But maybe I will point out a thing or two for the record. You technically *can* set the Lite down and play with a gamepad, you only need to place the Lite on a stand/cradle since it doesn't have a kickstand built in. It works with the pro controller, and apparently a wired gamepad also works provided you use a USB-A to Type-C adapter. P.S. At times I've actually humored the idea of getting an og/OLED Switch as a side console, to see what it's like and I may find that it's not really as bad as it looks despite the increased size/weight and issue of it actually being three separate devices lego'd together. That would be overkill though. If I actually decide to do this, shoot me. I'm way too spoiled as it is and need to learn to curb my spending, especially as it pertains to games. (which as I've stated in my previous few posts, are something I barely consider essential as of late. In the past I viewed games as essential, and arguably they were to me, which is how I was able to justify my purchase habits.)

Editing … maybe you have a point about the OLED screen klem. The screen on my Lite never seems that good anymore. But that's most likely because I set the brightness really low. When I first got it I played at high/mid brightness but would gradually keep lowering it over time so that it's nearly at the lowest possible setting. So now it just seems dull, even though I know its screen is factually way better than the screens on the PSP, slim Vita, and any model of 3DS.

It could also mean that you have just become more critical and expect more brightness/quality from screens. There was this dude on YouTube who tested the oled for burn in and he convinced me oled screens have come a long way. That thing will only burn in if you make it your job to burn it in with a still image for hundreds of uninterrupted hours.
