...I still haven't sold my system, btw. Ever since I moved to the Switch, I've really missed my 3DS. 2DS. Whatever. It's got a freaking clamshell design, so that automatically makes it the best portable system ever made.
We also need more Etrian Odyssey games, dammit.

Editing … That would probably seem more cute if non dungeon crawler rpgs that unironically used random encounters didn't still exist. (Octopath, FFX/X-2, WoFF, Tales, Star Ocean, Enchanted Arms, DQ, Digimon, Pokemon, etc.)

Editing … I think the first Etrian Odyssey is as easy as it gets. The 3DS version also has a neat "Story Mode" that they added with Madhouse anime cutscenes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bh8uEvcP-Aw

Editing … For whatever reason, I don't like playing through dungeon crawlers on other portable systems. I haven't even touched my PSP in the last few years, because it doesn't have a clamshell lid.

Editing … Yeah, but I think the clamshell idea just made the controller a lot more durable. I hate how everything just feels more fragile on the Switch. I actually had to reattach the joystick once for Switch Lite. That was nerve-wrecking.

Editing … Also, the stupid rubber tops on the Switch joysticks keep falling off. I thought the analog nub on the 3DS was nice. Nintendo could've just stuck with that, but no...

Editing … Maybe my PS4 controller has really good spokes on the bottom of the rubber top. I mean, it's stayed on better than my PS2 controller...Anyways, I just ditched the rubber tops for the Switch joysticks, because most of them never stay on. So now they're as naked as that dank N64 joystick.

Editing … Yeah, Nintendo really reduced the springiness of that power button in the newer models (including the new 2DS). I like the XL screen, though. And I wish there were more games that utilized the Gamecube-ish C-stick.

Editing … It's prob cause the button is on the outside now and they wanted to prevent it from powering on while carrying around in your pocket or something. There was nothing wrong with having it on the inside like the og 3DS and og XL, so the new design is pretty dumb. I hear the home button on the 2DS XL is also hard to press. Sigh. But on the bright side, at least now I'm no longer stuck deciding if I should play the the 3DS port or Switch port of Xenoblade.

Editing … So I have a New Galaxy 3DS, that I've nearly forgotten about. It goes for like $300 on ebay. Used. God damn I need to get rid of this thing. The question is whether to sell it, or to eventually gift it to my brother's newborn son when he gets old enough to play videogames. The problem with the latter idea is that it's too pricey for someone's first console (better to go with something more replaceable), and on top of that, the SNES Virtual Console doesn't have access to Super Mario All Stars, wtf Nintendo. The game is on Switch, but it requires a subscription, nuts to that. I can put that game on Vita but I'd have to either gift either my slim Vita (what kind of uncle would I be if I gift a gross slim Vita) or my OLED Vita. (which I'm reluctant to give up) The games included in All Stars are available separately on GBA, but they suffer from screen crunch so that's out. So I'm stuck. If only there was a decent way to play All Stars. PSP maybe? It is kind of fragile for a first console, and from my experience the SNES emulation is not that terrific. But maybe that's the best option.
