After plenty of albums as an underground indie-ish dude, Common pulls off his most stellar performance with Kanye West on the turntables. Although most of this album is heavily inspired by Marvin Gaye and various other R&B oldie musicians, Be sounds almost nothing like them. In fact, the whole CD is an incredible effort that crosses Kanye West's awesome voice sampling ideas with Common's sporadic, avant-garde rap monologues.

Be has such a unique, sensual sound that never seems to cross the line into raunchy territory. It's no surprise that Common's the rap dude who appears in movies and TV commercials these days--he's too sexy for everyone, man.
