Hulu will air a new live-action Ghost Rider series, starring Gabriel Luna, who portrayed the character for Agents of SHIELD.
But this is not a continuation of the Agents of SHIELD character, and the series apparently won't tie in with the MCU. It's a reboot of the character, played by the same actor. However, the series is still part of the MCU. Huh?
Now I'm wondering how they're defining a tie-in here. Does this encompass references, or acknowledgements that the rest of the MCU exists? The Netflix MCU was mostly isolated, but it contained a number of references to obviously important facts like that aliens once invaded New York, that the Avengers are a squad of superhumans that do exist, and even had a reference to Agents of SHIELD. Its stories may be mostly confined, but they take place in a world that's becoming familiar with superheroes. Are they thinking more like Runaways, which takes place in the offline city of San Francisco, where no one's heard of superpowers? pls no

Hulu's also ordered a Helstrom series which we could see connect with Ghost Rider, forming a mini-continuity within the overall universe much like the Netflix MCU.

“We’re thrilled Hulu will be moving into a new — admittedly chilling — corner of the Marvel Universe with ‘Ghost Rider’ and ‘Helstrom’. Paul and Ingrid are crafting gripping adventures into fear that live in our ‘Spirits of Vengence’ cornerstone.” - Jeph Loeb

"Marvel’s known for all the heart, humor, and action they put into every series, but this time around we’re adding some scares to that mix." - Paul Zbyszewski

Editing … I'm assuming it's the same verse and character, but won't be tied to AOS is all that means. It's just publicist speak for "we want it to stand on its own. This is our thing and we get the credit." It's the same actor playing the same version of the character so it wouldn't make sense for it to be anything else.

Editing … As it is his character arc in AOS was pretty resolved so there's no great need to tie any new stories to that time period.

Editing … According to Variety, "sources stress that this will be a completely new iteration of the character in no way connected to the “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” storyline." By those accounts, it's not the same version of the character, it's just the same character and actor.

Editing … If it was a different version why would they bother keeping the same actor?

Editing … I think it's just cuz people enjoyed his performance, and maybe it'd be even more confusing to have two Robbie Reyes actors in the MCU. There were talks of Gabriel Luna appearing in a Ghost Rider Netflix series, so this is just some strange evolution of that. Maybe we'll find out that some sources misspoke, or maybe it'll make no sense, and we'll just have to deal with that and appreciate it nonetheless.

Editing … He's playing Robbie's twin brother, but they were separated at birth, and both were adopted by families named Reyes, and both were named Robbie, and both are Ghost Rider. It's the only logical conclusion.

Editing … A joke with an Endgame spoiler. SpoilerIt's the other timeline. Also maybe not a joke, but if I didn't say it was a joke then it might suggest some Endgame influences. We'd basically have two MCUs if they did that though--unless Ghost Rider lets him travel between timelines? Really, the MCU's lore is already pretty wonky, with many inconsistencies and a timeline that's only possible if everyone's got a DeLorean, but that's not really the point of their universe. It's why the MCU succeeded where the DCEU was failing, the latter tried way too hard to build a universe, while the MCU went for films/shows first, universe second. Luckily DC's figured that out.
