Hard to believe that trip-hop was "revolutionary" at one point, but that's how American critics reviewed the debut album of Poe, a.k.a. Anne Decatur Danielewski. Poe never gained a really huge follow-up single to "Angry Johnny," but she came up with a cool "new" hybrid sound between alternative rock and R&B beats. Other DJs and producers exploited trip-hop to make it into an entirely new pop genre, but Poe was the first to make it a big deal in the U.S.
