9 out of 10 of these are cool choices, can't say I agree with your British pick though.

Editing … Yeah, a lot of people seem to see Corbyn as the British Bernie Sanders because they're both grandfatherly radically left wing/anti-establishment types but it's not that simple. Corbyn's history with the IRA/Russia/Iran/Hamas/Hezbollah/anti-semitism are seriously messed up and the people he surrounds himself with are as bad or worse.

Editing … I left out a lot. The time he invited a Hamas fundraiser/convicted anti Semite to parliament/defended him from deportation. His view that the Russian invasion of Crimea was provoked. How his right hand man John McDonnell is on record praising the "bullets and bombs of the IRA" and posing with a manifesto that includes disbanding MI5/MI6. And how his Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott once argued Chairman Mao "on balance did more good than harm". And how his special advisor Andrew Murray is an ex-communist on record defending Stalin and declaring "solidarity with people's Korea". Then there's Corbyn's time as chair of the "Stop the War" group that condoned insurgents using whatever means necessary to attack British troops in Iraq in 2004 (at a time when Baathist/Al Qaeda weapons of choice were IEDs and suicide bombs), denied the Yazidi genocide in 2014 and explained the 2015 Paris attacks as "reaping the whirlwind of western actions". The list goes on.

Editing … 1. What his advisers say isn't relevant here. I didn't rank his advisers. I guess you could say it's a reflection on him but generally I take people pretty much just as isolated individuals. 2. I don't know enough about his Russia/Iran connections but while I condemn IRA and Hamas terrorism I can see a decent argument for trying to work with them for shared goals against UK and Israeli oppression, just like I can understand working with the PKK for example. 3. The Crimea thing is troubling and I won't defend it. 4. I don't know enough about his views on the Yazidi genocide (though frankly it's a bit of a blind spot for me as well) but I'd be willing to look further into it. 6. The "reaping of Western actions" to me doesn't sound like support or condoning but just an explanation that I would somewhat agree with since I see a lot of terrorist actions as largely reactionary against imperialist transgressions.

Editing … But the main point is I care about what he's trying to do domestically. I'm tired of dumb neoliberal policies whether it's in the U.S. or the UK and someone trying to work towards a realignment to a more progressive agenda, especially in the face of such opposition, should be supported.

Editing … #1) I definitely take the extremism of Corbyn's inner circle and the Stop the War group he was chairman of as a huge indicator of his character. #2a) The most disturbing part of his history with Hamas for me is when he invited Raed Salah (a Hamas fundraiser convicted as an anti Semite for claiming the Jews were behind 9/11 and spreading the blood libel) and wrote letters defending him from deportation calling him an honourable gentleman. He also laid a wreath on the grave of the Munich bomber and it recently came out that Corbyn once condemned the destruction of an anti-Semitic mural.

Editing … 2b) If Corbyn had just wanted a united island of Ireland by peaceful means (perfectly legitimate view although I disagree because the majority in NI don't seem to want that) and condemned UVF violence and events like bloody Sunday I'd have no issue with him. My issue is that he actively opposed the 1986 Anglo-Irish agreement that started the peace process in parliament, attended and spoke at conferences of IRA supporters throughout the 80s and early 90s without ever once speaking out against violence/calling for a peaceful democratic approach. He once attended the funeral of 8 IRA terrorists who died attacking a police station and told the crowd "I’m happy to commemorate all those who died fighting for an independent Ireland’".

Editing … #3) Glad we agree on the Crimea invasion. I find it disturbing/anti-democratic that Corbyn buys the "sphere of influence" idea Putin uses to justify what he did to Ukraine. His inner circle (Milne and Murray) have a far worse record on Putin than Corbyn himself does but I thought Corbyn's handling of the nerve agent attack on a Russian defector and his daughter on British soil last week was appalling as well.

Editing … His history with Iran includes attending the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Islamist revolution and giving a speech praising Iranian tolerance. He also took £20,000 to make multiple appearances on Iranian state TV without once mentioning the country's human rights record including after the channel itself broadcast the "confession" of a tortured journalist.

Editing … Personally I think Charles Kennedy, Menzies Campbell, Frank Field and Robin Cook have been the most admirable 21st century British left wingers. Even if I agreed with Corbyn's domestic views I think all of the above makes him unfit to be an MP, never mind Prime Minister. If you want to rank someone British who shares Corbyn's radical left wing position but doesn't have the disturbing history I'd suggest Dennis Skinner.
