Hard work and determination might seem like overused themes in these films, but the electrifying arena atmosphere of Miracle magnified them to a higher level. Kurt Russell shines as Herb Brooks, a brutal coach who shaped up his U.S. hockey team to pull off one of the biggest upsets of all time. Even when the movie reared itself up for the payoff ending with the "miracle on ice" moment, this sleeper hit tugged my heartstrings every step of the way.
