There isn't a single WRPG in my top 10 role-playing games. Fellow JRPG lovers! What WRPG stole your heart and snuck it's way into your favourites?

Editing … There have been a few good ones in recent years, if I were to pick a WRPG specifically to recommend to JRPG fans I would pick Torment: Tides of Numenara because of its story focus and turn-based combat. The Divinity: Original Sin games are so fun and big time sinks. Also I consider it an action adventure game but Horizon: Zero Dawn is great. And since you're an old school guy I would suggest Betrayal at Krondor and the Might & Magic games.

Editing … It has some of the worst game feel in any venerated fps-style game ever, so it's not just you. Like Wolfenstein 3D plays better. Even for the time animations look laughable and the AI is spotty. But in terms of game design, it's one of the greatest examples ever of emergent gameplay. If you do something ridiculous like make a staircase out of crates to get over a barricade, the game will often acknowledge it with dialogue and reactions from other characters. People were lauding games like Mario Odyssey for doing that sort of thing last year, while Deus Ex was doing it in 2000. Deus Ex is tough to get into, but it's special. To paraphrase George Weidman in his review of the Witcher 1 "Sometimes the most flawed games are the most interesting."

Editing … Back in those days, I kept wondering why all the PC nerds were buying Monster 3D graphics cards. I was like, why do I need super 3D polygon power? Oh, maybe they bought it because the microchips taste good. I eventually played Quake. A demo, because I'm a cheapskate like that. Lol.

Editing … I also tried out Jet Moto. For the PC. I kept wondering why the edges of the polygon looked so clear. I mean, dad did buy it so that we could play PC Final Fantasy 7. But yeah, the FF7 cutscenes had really grainy FMV-ish resolution compared to those PC polygons. If the Steam edition looks any better, could anyone let me know? Lol.

Editing … System Shock 2 still plays well for me, probably because on top of the sublime game design the melee combat still feels pretty good, and while the shooting is rather ass, you melee more than shooting by a factor of around 20 to 1. Also aesthetically speaking the hideously monstrous character models of games around that time work pretty well in SS2 since most of the NPC's are supposed to be actual hideous monstrosities.
