I love this genre, but I haven't played one in quite some time. Anyone know of any good ones? I quite fancy trying that "Mother Russia Bleeds" or whatever it's called.

Editing … #Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time remains the finest 2D beat 'em up to date. If you've never played it, get on it. #Guacamelee! is an awesome modern Metroidvania with very beat em up style combat. And then there's #Castle Crashers. And since you're an RPG fanatic you might want to try #Vanillaware's games. They've never really been my cup of tea but the improvements made in Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir makes me want to try it if it ever drops in price.

Editing … I've played Castle-Crashers and it was great fun, although I disliked the fact that you levelled up the characters. I prefer a level playing field for co-op games. I have no interest in playing with someone who has much better gear, etc than me. And equally, I have no desire to be overpowered compared to my teammates. Bizarrely I have never played the Turtles game despite it's reknown :P I have Guacamelee though. Is it playable in co-op?

Editing … Yup, though I've never tried it. Might be awkward if one player is terrible at platforming.
