I only played this game for a bit before going to dinner, but I'm a bit disappointed, I picked this game because I thought it would be like the first Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi games, which I like and always wanted to own one, but it seems to be just a Mario side-scroller, which I will admit, I'm not that big of a fan...

Editing … And that's why I skipped this one. I really hope there will be a REAL Paper Mario game for Wii U...

Editing … Don't give up on it, though. SPM still has loads of creativity and charm and still pretty puzzle heavy. It's my second favorite of the series, behind TTYD.

Editing … I wont give up on it, mostly because of how much it cost me xD I liked the story so far and I can see there's some creativity, but I wanted a Mario RPG xD

Somehow I can't shake off the feeling that #Super Paper Mario wasn't initially supposed to be a Mario game during development, until some greedy executive stepped in and forced the dev team to put Mushroom Kingdom characters and references in there to maximize profit.

Editing … Are you sure about that? According to Wikipedia, it was a Paper Mario game from the start.

Editing … Not really, it was just a hunch. The high amount of new characters and enemies In Super Paper Mario made me think I'm onto sth here.

Editing … Nope. "Super Paper Mario was created out of a desire to combine the familiar look of the Paper Mario series with a new style of gameplay. Chief director Ryota Kawade was on a train thinking about ways to adapt a mini-game from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door in which the player controls a large Bowser in a short side-scrolling stage; he noticed that the other end of the train looked like a stage in a Mario game and envisioned switching between two and three dimensions."

I was never able to get into the first two - a little too RPG for me - but Super Paper Mario minimized the roleplaying elements and turned up as a heavily featured sidescroller. Every environment is, though practically 2D, multi-layered and brings a new meaning to 2.5D perspective.

It's got some the best video game dialogue I know of, filled to the brim with in-jokes, self-awareness, fanservice and general fun-poking that only legitimate nerds could comprehend. These are sprinkled over an incredibly clever plot, as should be expected from a Mario RPG. Just plain wonderful!
