    Did you know?
"The Double Cherry from Super Mario 3D World was the result of a mistake made by a staff member with the placement tool, accidentally placing two player-controlled Marios in a level. The staff thought it was a good idea and decided to keep it in the game, making it a full power-up."

Though not as immediately incredible as Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario 3D World is far more impressive than its modest exterior would suggest. This game is to 2011's Super Mario 3D Land what Super Mario Bros 3 was to the original Super Mario Bros. The game offers a look into another world where the 2D platformer easily leapt into the third dimension, keeping their specific concepts rather than becoming the collectathons of the late 90's. Despite this, 3D World is if anything more immense than prior 3D Mario games.

Probably the greatest accomplishment of 3D World is the level design. Not only does it match the usual quality of Super Mario, it does so despite featuring five distinct characters , multiplayer, and numerous power ups. Controls are simple and intuitive, new powers are exciting to use, and certain boss fights are the best in recent memory. Plus, the game runs at a consistent 60 FPS even in intense situations and has a sweet jazzy soundtrack.

"World Crown is the final special world in Super Mario 3D World. It is unlocked after every Green Star and Stamp are collected as well as getting the Golden Flag by reaching the top of the Goal Pole for every level." - mariowiki.com

Oh hell no, I'm not going to do that. So far I unlocked 254 green stars and collected 61 stamps, that has to be enough for now.

Disclaimer: I've only seen a Let's Play on Game Grumps – and I switched it off after three eps.

I do not like the direction of this Mario game. At all.

There are all sorts of game dynamics (i.e. the scoring system, stealing items) that support a competitive attitude to playing this game, even though Mario games in the SNES past and before have always been a cooperative effort. Cooperative by passing turns instead of simultaneous gameplay, but at least not competitive.

And it's a 3D platformer with a fix camera. That cannot work.

That's all I got to say for this little input.

Editing … I played it with friends and the major issue with the game is the fixed camera. Too many times I died because I thought I was jumping on a platform, but I was in fact over a hole.

I just played Level 1. The camera perspective is a bit weird, it's kinda hard to describe. Also, I almost died because of the time limit, I only had 65 seconds left when I climbed that pole. I hate time limits. But it's fun so far.

How many checkpoints does 3D world have in each level? If I lose all my lives am I forced to replay several chapters or does it save after every stage?
I'm asking because I suck at jump 'n run games (like, reeally suck), esp ones made by Nintendo, although I had no trouble completing Rayman Origins and Little Big Planet 1-2. So, how rage-inducing is this one?

Editing … http://bit.ly/1b3T1ew Well I don't consider MEdge a jump 'n run game although that's ...actually all you do most of the time. I've completed MEdge about 7 times so far without any problems while I'm stuck at the first Bowser bossfight in Galaxy 1 for quite some time now, so I guess Nintendo still creates games that are beyond my skill level.

Editing … Stuck at the first Bowser bossfight in Galaxy? Seriously? Galaxy is probably the easiest Mario game ever. Certainly it is the easiest 3D Mario game ever. That's actually my main complaint with it. Sunshine was way more challenging.

Editing … I wouldn't worry about lives. If it's anything like 3D Land (and I suspect it is) then you'll have plenty of ways to get MANY extra lives. I have over 200 in 3D land atm.

Editing … [SORT OF SPOILER BUT NOT REALLY] From what I've heard it has a main game and then a special world. Same as in 3D Land. The special world in 3D Land is excellent and challenging so I'm guessing 3D World is the same. Also, no white Tanooki Suit! ;)

I've got to say, this game looks really, REALLY good. Like the game I wanted Mario 64 to be back in the day. Between this and the NSMBU pack in the Wii U is looking a lot better.
