How do I rank this...Uhh...it's a ripoff. Pay $40-ish for a demo/prologue, because Konami wants money! However, it's worth owning if the price is dirt cheap.

Editing … I never rank a game based on price. It's too inconsistent and it can vary so wildly depending on when you buy it. As a stand-alone game I thought it was great, and it has way more than enough to keep you occupied for hours and hours.

Editing … I'm with Slider, it's basically MGS V: Playable Teaser, I don't even think it should've been released as a paid product. It was fun, and I think it actually delivered a better open mission setting than any areas in TPP did, but if I'd paid for this game I'd have felt totally cheated (MGS fanatic gave it to me). Ranking based on price is a good way to account for that cheated feeling. I gave it an 8 though.

Editing … Well now I kinda feel like playing GZ again. The open design of TPP, without the large expanses of nothingness, and constant filler missions. Plus that FOX ENGINE. GOD. I wish TPP wasn't open world, or maybe had a smaller open world, or maybe a more dense open world, I dunno, anything to make it less boring and less irritating. The open world in TPP made the game feel like a chore so often.

Editing … So should I rate it higher because I didn't pay full price and therefore wasn't cheated?

Editing … does that matter to you? I'm not tryna tell you how to rate it, but if I'd paid, I'd have felt cheated and given it a lower score. You clearly don't--feel cheated that is--and I think you should rate with your heart. I base my ratings on what feels right, they aren't calculated. I'd rather ponder why I chose my rating than think about what rating I ought to give.

Editing … Well, I honestly don't know what to think of it. However, the initial trailers for MGS 5 show all the scenes from the so-called prologue. So if all the missions were left on one f***ing disc, that would be really great! Unfortunately, that's not what happened. So...Sigh. I dunno. TPP gets a higher score. End of story.

MGS series was always known for its highly cinematic experience and superb gameplay. The synergy between the two, while ever changing (in order to find the ''right'' balance between the two) and often disputed, was iconic. MGSV: GZ, on the other hand, stripped away the cinematic experience from the package and focused instead on the gameplay aspect - resulting in a mechanically excellent, but ultimately soulless MGS game.
Pros: Puts an interesting spin on the Peace Walker's story, excellent game and level design, offers different approaches and routes to suit your game style and situations that can pop up, great sound design and music
Cons: Visuals (although great on the tech side) lack the typical MGS flair, resulting in a highly generic looking game, Camp Omega (although a fun playground) isn't very memorable, Kiefer Sutherland phoned his performance in, lacks the typical cutscene-to-gameplay MGS rhythm as well as a boss fight to round it off, at launch it was overpriced for what you got, lacks series' quirkiness

How are you guys playing this, settings-wise? I have everything of the HUD deactivated except subtitles and trial notifications. Quite the intense experience.

#Intel Operative Rescue is the only level for which I also turn on the weapons reticle. 'Coz, DAMN! …

After trying this out for free with PS+, I realized I haven't really been a fan of MGS since Twin Snakes. I am now faced with the realization that I no longer care for the series. Weird how that happens...

Philosophical question: what's an MGS game without a boss fight?

"Ground Zeroes" is lacking the – imo – most vital component of the MGS series. Apart from a relative simple plot and a few further changes, underneath it all it's still MGS, though. And as an authentic tactical espionage simulation, to me it finally feels like Kojima always intended it to be.

The controls are incredibly sophisticated; quick-equip seems fidgety; Snake's corner-sticking feels wobbly; and duct-entering is downright frustrating.

Why the voice over feels REALLY odd to me: Kiefer Sutherland's lack of passion; a PS2-era-esque limitation of in-game dubbing by design; and then there's this one character who, I assume, is supposed to sound American but cannot hide his Japanese accent :irk

BUT! the new FOX engine is complex, powerful, impressive … and gorgeous! Btw, VERY challenging – if you try stealth and/or no-kill playthrus.

I think this tech demo is, at the time, worth the €19 that I payed for.
