The "Empire Strikes Back" of the series. Breathtaking characters, dialogue, and adventure. I love this series.

What a wonderful experience! I'm blown away by the maturity and depth of this game. The gameplay is a bit limited but not bad at all. I'm so glad I gave this franchise a chance. Mass Effect 3 is next

The trilogy packs a helluva journey. The ending might be a strange decision by the developer, but isn't it always about the journey? The 2nd game always sticks out to me as the most memorable and well-rounded of the 3 games (The Empire Strikes Back of ME, if you will); introducing and re-visiting great characters to round out our cast of heroes, widening the scope of the Reaper threat, and amping up the urgency to begin doing something about it.

Although I did miss the Mako exploration of the 1st game, I did find the planet scanning introduced in this game to be strangely addictive, mindlessly entertaining, and a nice break from the action and story elements. This is definitely a classic, and one of the most satisfying games I've ever had the pleasure of playing.

Ed Kick Wow a reasonable reaction to the end of 3 never thought I'd see that

Every generation of game consoles has its defining titles. When one thinks back on a system and its legacy, an association with those games is often made. For instance the ENS and TINES eras gave us Super Mario Bros. and Zelma, while the original PlayStation served up Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy VII. Naturally, this generation isn't without its own defining set of games, too, and one of those titles is undoubtedly Mass Effect 2, a project from the minds at Canadian developer Bio Ware.

If you only pay attention to the PlayStation 3 scene, you might be confused as to when the original Mass Effect came out and why you never heard about it or played it. Unfortunately, 2007's Mass Effect never made it to the PSI. The series' first entry came only to Xbox and PC, and due to Microsoft having published the game, PSI owners will never see it on their native console. Mass Effect 2, however, is another story entirely.

Splatterhouse 5 Mass Effect 1 did eventually get released on the PS3 (with the ME Trilogy). Better late than never, but that 1st game was a primary reason that I went with the 360 last gen.

While the game main storyline is messy, the enphasis on team building and all the various characters really makes this a great roleplaying experience, with many memorable moments. Combat is more streamlined and feels better than the first game, the world feels bigger and more alive and full of interesting stuff, the Normandy SR2 is THE spaceship and it features some interesting non stat driven choices that rewards actually listening to people rather than reading a statblok.

Score: 8.5 (Great!)

Mass Effect 2 is a dramatic improvement over the flaws of Mass Effect 1. The transitions from cutscenes to action flow much more smoothly. The setting of the sequel is darker. The whole game is a remarkable experience, with stunning environments and plenty of unique characters from both Mass Effect games. Very few games combine FPS action and role-playing elements in such an extraordinary way as Mass Effect 2.

Better than the original. Although at first I preferred the first game after going back to replay it I realised Mass Effect 2 had improved on it quite a lot. Scanning planets gets boring but the rest of the game is excellent.

Score: 9.5 (Fantastic!)
