Claire has to go see the doctor because she has high blood pressure.

This is my chance to get her to eat less meat!

Editing … There is more chance of my conspiracy nutjob brother being right about everything then Claire eating oats. We do eat veg but her problem is that every meal has to be meat. Like from the 1950s when it was meat and 2 veg every night. She doesn't like potatoes much either so all her carbs are bread or pasta, I think she does like them she just prefers the worser foods. But this is a chance, I can get working on her to actually eat fish and get some more good stuff in there. She eats a lot of bacon too, I hardly ever touch it but her weekend breakfasts are bacon sandwiches.

Editing … That's too bad. Oatmeal is pretty good at lowering blood pressure. That does sound like a lot of the worst meats. I know someone who after becoming pre-diabettic did decide to eat healthier and I never in my life thought he would reform his crap diet usually consisting of meat and fish fried in copious amounts of butter with a few veggies thrown to the side. I think people can change if they are shocked enough.

I have genuine concerns about my health. I was hoping to not drink this month but the world cup ruined it. Now England have their biggest game since forever and it doesn't start until 7pm. PM! How can I be trusted to not get worked up and drink when the shops opens at 7am. AM!

That is also half joking in case you don't know England (Google whetherspoons pubs, breakfast with a pint £4.99). I need to keep myself occupied I think, no sitting at home watching the BBC build up the game with former stars and all that stuff.

I've noticed a massive decline in flexibility lately. Sure, I'm 43. But I also just sit in a chair all day everyday.

My hips are the worst affected so far, so I've gone back to doing the stretches I used to do at MMA. The thing that started it was when I tried to show Isabella how to bounce on her space hopper and I just couldn't do it without pain in my hips. It's a toddlers size hopper so it's small and my ass was nearly on the floor but still, 5 years ago I would have been fine and I know it.

I think at my age flexibility should totally be a priority in exercise judging from my personal experiences.

Editing … The one that worked the best back at MMA was when you sit on the floor. Put your soles of feet together and bring them in towards your arse, grab your ankles then push(gently a first) with your elbows on your knees downwards. I've started it again today, but obviously it'll be a month before I notice anything. Same with diet and exercise, give it a month then see before giving up.

Editing … I did some martial arts as a kid. They forced us to stretch until it hurt and then hold for 30 seconds each time. It was a big part of the training. They said that once you stop stretching for a long time the muscles bond together permanently and can't be torn apart from each other anymore. If you don't do crazy stretches as a kid, you are limited in potential as an adult. I still have a lot of flexibility from then, though not as much. I should stretch it up again. I don't like the idea of being an old stiffy.

Editing … There are two ways to flexibility. The long easy way or the hard and painfull fast way. We did the fast and painfull way at training. My legs hurt all the time and the next week when the pain was still there they still made us stretch. At a certain point it stopped hurting so much. But pain is a good sign but you have to keep stretching through the pain to prevent the flexibility from reverting back to normal.

    Poop transplants

    Designer gut bacteria

    wow. wowowow.

"Emerging science shows that a human’s microbiome – their constellation of gut microbes – has a far greater effect on health than anyone previously imagined. This enormous ecosystem we host in our bodies includes bacteria, fungi, viruses and more.

The collective genetic material in the microbiome performs myriad functions that affect our mood, our immunity, and our physical and mental health.

Crappy western diets and antibiotics are depleting our microbiota. And in some cases, a person’s microbiome is disordered enough that it needs a little boost from someone else’s.

Restoring them to health has become a very serious scientific endeavour, as the diversity of our gut bacteria is linked to everything from depression to how we respond to cancer treatment.

Now researchers are working on a “super stool” – a poo pellet you can eat that mimics a so-called unicorn’s special abilities."

After eating clean and exercising regularly for the past few months do I feel any better? Not really. I look better, that's for sure, but I feel the same. Is it worth it to miss out on takeaways, beer and bacon? Yeah, I've grown accustomed to my diet now, and my main goal now that I'm 40 this year is to be healthy enough to enjoy my retirement. I don't want to work all my life then die or be too unhealthy to live a little once I get the opportunity, that scares me! There's more to life then working.

I'm not going to live like a fucking monk though, I will have food treats, a beer with the lads and I will have time away from exercising. Health is no good if it makes you miserable. I figure 5 days out of 7 I need to look after myself well.

People giving themselves breaks because "they've earned it" is a good way for them to not get much benefit from trying. But yes I agree your good health has to be good for something, some greater agency or opportunity, or what's the point? Just lasting long enough so you can do what you want is everything, and not just referring to some work/retirement sense either.

I wish the career officer had suggested the job of "expert" to me. It seems like the simplest job in the world. I legitimately just heard this on the radio:

"Experts have discovered that the best way to lose fat is to..............eat less fat"

Well thank you very f***ing much, couldn't have worked that one out without you polling 130,000 people. Gah!
