I've noticed a massive decline in flexibility lately. Sure, I'm 43. But I also just sit in a chair all day everyday.

My hips are the worst affected so far, so I've gone back to doing the stretches I used to do at MMA. The thing that started it was when I tried to show Isabella how to bounce on her space hopper and I just couldn't do it without pain in my hips. It's a toddlers size hopper so it's small and my ass was nearly on the floor but still, 5 years ago I would have been fine and I know it.

I think at my age flexibility should totally be a priority in exercise judging from my personal experiences.

Editing … The one that worked the best back at MMA was when you sit on the floor. Put your soles of feet together and bring them in towards your arse, grab your ankles then push(gently a first) with your elbows on your knees downwards. I've started it again today, but obviously it'll be a month before I notice anything. Same with diet and exercise, give it a month then see before giving up.

Editing … I did some martial arts as a kid. They forced us to stretch until it hurt and then hold for 30 seconds each time. It was a big part of the training. They said that once you stop stretching for a long time the muscles bond together permanently and can't be torn apart from each other anymore. If you don't do crazy stretches as a kid, you are limited in potential as an adult. I still have a lot of flexibility from then, though not as much. I should stretch it up again. I don't like the idea of being an old stiffy.

Editing … Loosing flexibilty is annoying, despite beeing way above average in such. Then i said i can touch my nose with my knee was told impossible. Nope, actually broke my nose with left knee playing football as a goalkeeper around 1990.

Editing … I can almost touch my nose with my knees, I seem to have good upwards flexibilty. Just not sideways. And my hamstrings are terrible, I really need to stretch those out, first job tomorrow I'll google some shit.

Editing … It's only been 4 days but I can feel a difference already. I am doing a fair bit of stretching though, while my truck is on a loading bay I'll have a few minutes, and I do about 15 minutes before bed.

Editing … Nodley isn't long or hard and can't last a full minute. I tried holding the stretch longer instead of 30 seconds and pushing harder too but now I hurt my groin. I need a weeks rest. Baby steps nod, it's not even been a week yet you dickhead.

Editing … There are two ways to flexibility. The long easy way or the hard and painfull fast way. We did the fast and painfull way at training. My legs hurt all the time and the next week when the pain was still there they still made us stretch. At a certain point it stopped hurting so much. But pain is a good sign but you have to keep stretching through the pain to prevent the flexibility from reverting back to normal.
