Massively over dramatic, I thought that Saving Private Ryan had established that modern war films need to be realistic. To be fair, the Spitfire dogfights and stuff was really good, I enjoyed them a lot. Worst of all though, is the fucking background music! It never stops! Couple of people chatting - intense background music. Boat sailing past - intense background music. Guy taking a shit - more intense background music. It drove me fucking mad! I only finished it because I hate wasting my time, I needed to see it through so that hour or so wasn't lost completely. I came close to turning off a few times and never even bothered to pause when I went to toilet.

Editing … Some of my friends probably griped ever harder about Hans Zimmer because of this film. We all knew that he into dark-ish loud intensity, but Dunkirk made that Batman music sound like child's play. Now it's 24/7 intensity, baybee. o_0

Editing … I usually love Christopher Nolan movies, but I found that one to be extremely overrated. Basically no plot at all, very little meaningful dialogue, but worst of all, I saw it in theater and because I have sensitive ears, the overly loud sound effects and extremely repetitive music were driving me absolutely insane. I can't believe people think it has a great score, because it's so damn repetitive and actually hurt my ears, it's that bad.

Editing … I'm glad you guys noticed it too, I've never heard anybody complain about it before. Dunkirk is so highly rated but it's not good, and once you notice that music it's all you can think about, going on, and on, and on, and on...

Editing … I actually think the sound effects bothered me even more. But yeah, the music sure was driving me insane. If my brother wasn't with me, I would have left the theater, I think, that's how much it was getting to me. I mean, I technically thought last year's Star Wars was a worse movie, but it had nothing that got to me the way the sound editing in Dunkirk did.

Editing … I liked it a lot more that other people, I admit. Mostly because a little too into those pretentious Christopher Nolan ideas, where he tries to divide action between three areas and...adds tons of sound mixing? I didn't expect that. Lol. But the action scenes looked more realistic than, say, Saving Private Ryan. I mean, I didn't see anyone splatter guts inside out just because they got hit by a mortar. I looked at Saving Private Ryan and I was like, whoa. Splatterhouse World War, man.

Editing … Even after leaving the theater for Dunkirk though, everyone was talking about that overly intense sound mix. I mean, you cannot leave that movie without at least saying something about how unusual or annoying it was.

A WWII movie, from #Christopher Nolan, with #Tom Hardy and #Kenneth Branagh. If they actually get Hardy and Branagh, I'll be super hyped.

Editing … Will this be Nolan's first movie where the actors will be allowed to show emotions or will it feel as cold and detached as every other film of his?

Editing … Always looking forward to Nolan's films, fantastic director. And Gries it's not that they don't show emotions, it's part of his style and it works beautifully for the tone he sets for his movies. I personally love it.

Editing … I don't like the way he never lets actors show emotion. I think that it's a stupid gimmick. That's part of the reason I loved Memento so much.

Editing … I'm the biggest military history geek in the world, I've been all over Europe visiting battle sites including Dunkirk. I'd like it anyway but chuck in a bit of Tom and some talent here and there and this could be great.

Christopher Nolan's next feature will be about the Dunkirk evacuation of WWII, with Mark Rylance, Kenneth Brangah, and Tom Hardy all in talks to be in the film. Warner Bros. has set July 21, 2017 to be the release date.
