I played 11 hours before deciding it was too grindy for me. The quests I experienced were entirely either fetch or clear, and as with DA2, the dialogue options just pissed me off.
The following is a dramatization of an in-game scenario.
Selected dialogue: "There must be another way to win the Templars' favor."
    Spoken dialogue: "Fuck the Templars."
why can't I just be a peaceful man when I'm not shedding blood

The decisions in these games are pretty fucking bonkers too. Like, say a character badmouths you, you might be given three dialogue choices:
    "Kill him."
    "You decide."
"He deserves death, but I am a benevolent god. Go, flee from this country, for your head shall be worth a thousand crowns to me."
what the fuck, why does BioWare insist I have to be an egomaniac or a tyrant

Often when playing DA1, DA2, and DA:I, I felt as if BioWare didn't want me to be a good guy. They wanted me to be violent, they wanted me to align myself with oppressors, they wanted me to be take freedoms away from helpless NPCs. Then when I finally do make a violent decision, one to overthrow a totalitarian regime comparable to if the Pope tried to run the world, suddenly I'm the bad guy.
I just can't enjoy this series' dialogue, its lore, its story, or its gameplay. I don't think it does very much right. Man, the writing is some primary school shit, it's either lazy or amateur.

Inquisition though? It's just boring. The quests are a grind, the combat's a grind, everything's worked in a lot more grind--even traversal's a grind! Honestly, I thought that Dragon Age would see huge improvements if it added in more sandbox elements, but oh no, this isn't what I meant. This is an MMO world. The same enemies always spawn in the same area--after a victory, run away for less than a minute and run back, and you'll find the same foes waiting for you. Each map provides paths--either paved or beaten--which offer the only passage between areas, causing the world to feel repetitive. When your objective is, say, at Ginger's Forest Cabin (I made this up), you have to take the same road to his cabin every time, because there's no other way in. This applies to almost every area in every region. Regions are split into distinct biomes which are locked to a particular time of day and weather, adding to the DEATH felt in this world. You aren't living in it, you are grinding through it. NPCs don't acknowledge you, they're barely even alive. This world's almost as dead as Pokemon Sun and Moon.

But man, I like how Inquisition looks. It's really pretty. Pretty as fuck. Really good lookin'. Hot damn *whistles*

The final mission is 5 minutes long. No talking to companions about the coming battle and reflecting on your adventures with them. No grand last battle where your forces duke it out with the villain's army. Not even the dignity of showing your party on the way to take down the big bad. Once you begin the mission it presents cutscene where you run up the boss and then you fight him. That's it! Unbelievably underwhelming considering how much effort was put into making DA:O, ME2 and ME3 all have endings that felt like epic & emotionally-charged capstones to their respective games. By comparison Inquisition's ending is basically its way of saying "Oh, we ran out of EA sugar daddy money? Well okay... here's an ending I guess..."

Editing … All of the quality in this game is frontloaded as fuck. The first zone as well as the first major mission (I picked mages) are just fantastic. And then it starts limply rolling downhill at a modest pace. Not too fast, but unfortunately it keeps at this downward slant for the rest of the game only mildly bumping up during companion talks+quests.

Bioware had all of their last remaining good will riding on this one and they managed to pull it off. The old Bioware might be gone but this is the new Bioware's way of saying "Hey, we can make good games too!"

    And sure enough, they can.

AAA-mazing. Bioware has finally done it. This game is the perfect blend of all games Bioware has created. Easily GOTY 2014.

Editing … I haven't done much of the plot yet, but I've encountered a fair number of potentially game changing (as in, they'll make each playthrough feel different depending on what you do) choices already. It's at the very least my favorite Bioware game since the first Dragon Age so far, but I think it'll end up being quite a bit better.

Editing … I'm all for game changing choices in RPG's, but DA1 was freaking ridiculous. I was forced to make some redundant choice every 30 seconds, all I wanted to do was play the damn game and it constantly asked me to talk to people that would ask me 10+ questions. It took FOREVER to go from story to gameplay X_X I really liked DA1, let me make that clear and I can understand the appeal for many people, but jesus christ Bioware all I want is to play your damn game! :P

Editing … In that case: Yeah, this one does the exact same thing. Basically all Bioware games do. If you try starting up a conversation with anyone in the game, be prepared to go through bunches and bunches of dialogue options. I personally love it, because I love deep character interactions in my RPG's, but I can see how it would get to be excessive for some people.

Editing … I mean if the choices were actually interesting and felt like they had some kind of point yeah, I would kind of dig it. But Origins kept forcing me to make so many apparently redundant decisions that it drove me nuts after awhile. The combat itself was pretty good though, I love me some FFXII style battle system, and I was liking the character development system as well. It looked like it had a HUGE world to explore with lots of shit to uncover, which I absolutely love. If it weren't for the ridiculous time spent with the story, which I admit is a personal gripe, I could see it being in my ATF 50...

Am I going to enjoy Dragon Age 3 if I absolutely loathed DA 1, skipped all the dialogue in DA 2 but pretty much fell in love with the Mass Effect series and had fun with both KOTOR games?

Jade Empire sucked, btw. So did Fallout 3 and The Elder's Scrolls 3-5.

Editing … To me Inquisition looks more like Origins than anything else (going off reviews it's like Origins with a weaker story but better gameplay and more to explore) and it's not sci-fi whereas the only Bioware games you like are so I'd guess no. I don't know if I can make a great prediction for someone who has strange enough taste to hate Skyrim and Fallout 3 though.
