Saved!dvdEditing … Wasn't DKCR originally $50? Anyways, I seriously doubt it had a big budget. It's a 2D platformer after all. The development budget was probably modest, definitely not AAA level. As for the difficulty, it was designed to be old-school, hardcore game, what else can you expect from a traditional 2D platformer? Challenge is part of the experience.
