I didn't think an anime could ever replicate the stupid hardcore atmosphere of Dark Souls, but Shangri-La Frontier came pretty darned close. I mean, it taught me that the real way to play these games is shirtless with a stupid helmet on.

Y'know, the "Let Me Solo Her" way.

the difficulty and hidden story make an artistic masterpiece in my eyes. everything feels intentional and all deaths feel like they are your fault. the single most satisfying gaming experience ive ever had and have played for over 1000 hours.

Uh...Dark Souls is better than Betrayal at Krondor. (What the hell are all these new WRPGs, man?)

Woooooow, they didn't even improve the fucking inventory. Yeah, no way I'm buying this until some drastic price drops.

Editing … I don't really mind the original inventory. Any idea if they fixed the 4 directional rolling? That was the main thing that made it feel a little clunky to me when I went back to it after DS2 and 3.

Editing … Rolling is unchanged, though omnidirectional dodging is one of the greatest additions to the subsequent games. Inventory wasn't the #1 improvement I was hoping for, but it was my #1 improvement that would have been a total cakewalk to implement. Having to scroll through an inventory select that can only have 4 items on screen at once was a pain in 2011, it was a pain in Bloodborne (though slightly ameliorated by much fewer equipment items) and it's a pain in 2018. The grid based systems of DS 2 and 3 are far superior, and I don't think it's too much to ask for them to make such improvements when they're charging $40 USD, the same as the complete remake of Shadow of the Colossus. This is a pathetically lazy cash-grab.

Editing … Outside the resolution boost "graphics look slightly better" seems debatable. I wouldn't be making a stink about any of this if it weren't for the price. I wasn't expecting leaps and bounds of improvements with Darksiders: Warmastered Edition either, but that was $20 USD. I am so fed up with these full-price or near full-price ports becoming the new norm and I really hope it somehow blows up in their faces.

Editing … I'm definitely getting it. I love my 60 fps Souls and I've never played Artorias of the Abyss. But I'll be paying what it's worth, somewhere in the $20 area.

FML, the remaster is going to launch for $55 CAD. That's more than the Shadow of the Colossus remake that totally overhauled the graphics. This is getting absolutely absurd. And the USD to CAD conversion rate has actually fallen recently.

Although the Dark Souls series has never been one of my favorites, I still need to play it ever few years or so. For whatever reason, I just need to remember the pain and the beauty that is Dark Souls. Lol.

Okay, so from what I can gather the remaster is going to launch for $40 USD on all platforms. UNACCEPTABLE! The Prepare to Die Edition on Steam is currently $20 USD, and this remaster is simply going to be what the PC version should have been in the first place. This is a 6+ year old game. For all of the bullshit Capcom pull, they sell their remasters individually for only $20 USD, and some of them came out AFTER Dark Souls. This isn't as egregious as something like Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition, but it still sure feels like Bandai Namco have the Ring of Avarice stuck on their finger. It wouldn't surprise me if the cost was driven up so it could match that of the Switch port, because reasonable pricing is completely alien to Nintendo.

Remember when the God of War HD collection came out? That was two excellent games, the most recent of which had come out only 2.5 years prior, and launched for $40 USD. Now that was reasonable pricing. Not to mention God of War III wouldn't come out for another six months, whereas Souls fans have had three games since 2011 to get their fix, not to mention all the Souls-likes. I'm really curious whether fans will snatch this up in overwhelming numbers or if they'll have to quickly slash the price.

Editing … Oh great, LA Noire did the same thing. So did Final Fantasy XII. This is just the norm now. Here big publishers! Just take all the monies! Don't even bother developing anything new anymore! Just keep porting your old shit forward while charging us a kidney and our first born! Shame is for losers! Honestly Capcom, with Okami just out and Devil May Cry on the horizon, A+ for your relative sanity in this area. Everyone else, fuuuuuuuuuck you!

It's one of the best games I've ever played and I still recommend it to people but going back to it now it's interesting how it's aged. There aren't any huge differences between this and the sequels but they add up. The proper intertwining open world and lack of fast travel add a lot to the sense of exploration, you can level up at any bonfire and improve armour which is nice and endurance governs equip load which I prefer. I did miss the faster movement and weapon arts in Dark Souls III though.

The most interesting thing is that building co-op into the single player is a double edged sword. It's fantastic when the game is new and you can get past challenges with jolly cooperation, now that it's quiet it feels like the game is missing something essential. I guess eventually it'll go offline like Demons Souls has, enjoy it while you can people!

Editing … It would probably be my favorite in the series if not for the horrible lack of polish with the frame rate and the blinding bloom in Lost Izalith. That and I'm really glad they've eased up on the esoteric aspects with subsequent releases. Purging Stone? Where will I find one of those? ALL THE WAY BACK THERE!?!?!?!

Editing … Yeah, DeS went offline a while back. For me it goes Dark Souls > Dark Souls III > Dark Souls II > Demons Souls > Bloodborne. I'd love it to have some of the tweaks and polish from the sequels but it's still my favourite.
