I think a lot of people missed some of the subtleties of the story. It's essentially a detox narrative. Max actually uses the wealthy family for his own gain, it's just not thrown in the player's face; really good writing.

The game itself is really addictive, the only major flaw is the long loading time hidden within the cut-scenes.
