I waited ages for a Mirror's Edge sequel but when DICE finally gave us one I saw the bad reviews and decided to wait for a price drop. I feel daft about that now, this is a really good game.
It's the same immersive first person free running and beautiful cityscapes as the first game and they've transitioned from scripted linear levels to an open world of branching paths across the rooftops without losing the sense of pace. The story is better, there are more missions and then side missions after that (although not as many as I'd like) and they fleshed out the dystopian world a lot. Even though you spend the whole game on rooftops DICE did a great job of making each area feel different and the art style's great. I think it's one of the best looking games on PS4 right now. The additions to the free running gameplay like the grapple and the rewards for building up momentum fit in well.

It's not perfect. Now and again I ended up plummeting to my death because Faith did a wall run when I just wanted her to jump or vice versa. The soundtrack's good but it isn't as great as the original's is. You're very reliant on the runner vision to navigate and see paths along the rooftops you probably wouldn't spot naturally. Some of the unlockable free running moves like swat rolls and 180 turns really ought to have been unlocked from the beginning because you need to unlock them to beat the game. Same deal with the combat; the mechanics are good but until you upgrade your skills the enemies are all damage sponges and that gets tedious. Annoyingly even though this is a free running game running away from enemies isn't always an option in the story missions. Some of the obstacles like the fans you need to switch off then climb through kill the momentum as well.

All in all its a good sequel that taps into a lot of the untapped potential of the original by being more ambitious and going open world. It's not perfect but the core free running gameplay is excellent and there's still nothing else like it. I really recommend it
