You knew it was gonna be bad. I knew it was gonna be bad, but...wow! I was expecting some "so-bad-it's-funny" from this movie, but no. This was a truly wretched piece of cinema.

Editing … You're not exactly the target audience Ulty, why did you watch it?

Editing … Because I was expecting a "so-bad-it's-funny" experience, you know it's a piece of shit but it's also very funny, like I kind of got with New Moon. A co-worker of mine has the book, and I got to read a few lines...it's fucking hilarious! But the movie has none of that.

Editing … I mean, Christian rapes, stalks, and abuses Anastasia throughout the whole film, so... I wouldn't have even expected it to be funny-bad tbh. Just bad.

Editing … The rape, stalking, and abuse was in the book too

Editing … I'm not talking about if the movie or book is perverse and offensive, or even the concept of the relationship, i'm talking about the way it's written. In the book the sex scenes had hilarious narration, while the movie was just so boring and poorly edited.

Editing … I understand what you mean. I'm just suggesting that maybe the rape, stalking, and abuse interspersed between the bad narration should kind of outweigh the "ha ha" factor in both versions. That's by far the biggest issue with this piece of shit franchise, not some cheesy dialogue and word choices.

Editing … Twilight was a fan-fic spun from 50 Shades wasn't it? Wish I could remember the title of this thesis I looked at, it was massive and the author counted something like 200 incidents of stalking or domestic violence against the main character. The two series are a really weird phenomenon...

Editing … Yes, it was. The funny thing is I read a post that kind of explains how 50 Shades came to be, how AU has an incredibly strong presence in the Twilight fanfiction community because people dislike writing about the core universe, and how E.L. James was far from the first person in the fandom to write this "BDSM AU" story. It wasn't even an original or thoughtful idea on her part. And with the 200 incidents, are you talking about the Twilight series or 50 Shades? Because I wouldn't be surprised if it was both. Sadly at 16 I was naive and didn't catch this stuff when I was reading the books. Still has some decent vampire lore, which was mainly why I read it, but yeah.

Editing … The thesis was on Twilight but I don't think it should ruin the series for people. I had to read Twilight for Gothic Lit and it's genuinely paced well, and it gives you the perspective and anxieties of a teenage girl. We just had to read Heart of Darkness, which has this colonial & paternal racism throughout, but the novel is well written and captivating. Some media is problematic, but I think you can still enjoy it.
