The Shawshank's Redemption? Stand by Me? Apt Pupil? And a story about a beheaded woman giving birth to her child?! What could you want more?
The King Stephen is, for me, the best God Damn writer to ever walked this land. Poe, Lovecraft, you are great, you influenced this man, and many others, including me, but still, King stands taller.
And no book that I've read so far does it show better than in Different Seasons. At first it may look like a book to avoid. A King book that is not about Horror?! Well, there is one. The shortest story of the compilation, added there at the end more as a bonus for being a Stephen King book than anything else, yet, it's still fucking amazing.
But the first three stories are what make this book what it is. 3 amazing short stories that grip you more and more, one after the other, making you unable to let go of this book. From the timeless classic of Shawshank's Redemption, to the coming-of-age of Stand By Me (called "The Body" here) and, of course, not f

Editing … All these short stories are great in their own right and it shows on the fact that they all got movie adaptations. This is King at his best, showing to all the people that think he can only write horror that they are wrong, dead wrong. All Hail the King!

Editing … In case you're interested, King started off inspired by Lovecraft's short stories. By H.P. Lovecraft I really recommend "The Colour Out of Space" (short story) and "At the Mountains of Madness" (novella). If you want to see an analogous example of the two writers grab "Graveyard Shift" by King and "The Rats in the Wall" by Lovecraft. Clive Barker's "The Midnight Meat Train" is also derived from "The Rats in the Wall."

Editing … Right now I'm trying to read all the Stephen King books I have on the shelf. Though I also have a Lovecraft short story compilation, I'll see if it I find the "The Colour out of Space" in it, since I've read "The Rats in the Wall" already if it's the one I'm thinking of.

Editing … I really love some of King's stories. The Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption are my favourite. If you ever get to reading King's Dark Tower series make sure to read David Gemmil's 'John Shannow series,' it starts with "Wolf in Shadow"; I'd actually read Gemmil's series before The Dark Tower but I'll let you discover why :3

Editing … Yeah it's huge, that's also why I'd say read Gemmil's before Dark Tower, his three books are much smaller. Dark Tower is massive, fat, and huuuge.

Editing … Apt Pupil is actually my favorite King story I've read, followed by It. With Shawshank I can't remember if read it or saw the movie first. The movie was such a good adaption. Maybe they should adapt novellas more often. They're just the right length apparantly!
