This album's always been an enigma to me. I originally knew Dominia for their later melodeath stuff and knew of their older demos for a long time but had no way of hearing them, then eventually found an obscure download for all of their old demos and listened to them, and I couldn't believe it was Dominia I was listening to, they sounded so different in their demos, and on this one and the unnamed 2003 demo especially. It's obvious that back then they were trying very different sounds and genres to see what kind of band they wanted to be. The vocalist sounds absolutely nothing like himself on a lot of the songs here, I was convinced they had a girl guest singer on the album, but nope, same guy. Melancholy has such a unique and unusual sound and it's really hard to put a genre on a lot of it, most of it isn't even metal. It initially just confused me but it's grown on me a lot.
