SCG Con Baltimore "main event" is Standard format
    https://scgcon.starcitygames.com/event/scg-con-baltimore-2026/

Standard is... fine I guess? But I think I'd rather do side events in that case.

I think premodern and pioneer are my top priorities followed by value vintage. Standard, modern, legacy, and pauper are around the "just barely interested" tier. So I would probably just stick to side events.

Editing … Oh, maybe I would try standard just because multi day events are very rare. I've only attended one 2-day event in my entire life (this was in the 2000s) and I did not make day 2. If I ever made day 2 for something it would be a huge deal, even if I end up bombing the second day.

Starcitygames.com is showing full prices on my order history again! (For a while it looks like they stopped doing that but I guess it wasn't intentional)

It was April 2024. I bought a Plaguebearer for EIGHTY FIVE CENTS. Currently it's listed on the site for $34.99 and out of stock. Still can't believe this is real. xD
Bruh it's just an eighty five cent card how does this happen. xD

    Aug 2024 I bought a "Morgul-Knife" for 34.99.
Currently listed at 109.99 and out of stock.

There's a lot more such cases but those are the funniest ones imo.

    STONKS!!!!

Editing … For singles, it really depends. I notice so often singles drastically depreciate in price once they are reprinted or power crept. Sealed product on the other hand, seems to spike in value once it goes out of print, almost without exception. That said, I've been hearing a lot how "Universes Beyond is the new reserved list" which blows my mind. It's true that Wotc does not own the rights to Fallout, Final Fantasy, Spider Man etc. So buying anything based on an outside IP seems like an incredibly good investment.

Editing … I'd probably be more into the finance side of the hobby if only I had more space to hoard the stuff, and the energy/willingness to constantly have to sell things back for profit. Mostly, I just think it's cool to see a card I bought for myself to spike in value that much.

I opened a German Spider-Man booster box and it turns out I was right. The card stock is better overseas. Although they don't feel like some wild crazy new card stock or like cards from a different TCG. They just felt like the good kind of Magic card stock that we already have in the USA but which is seldomly used for whatever reason. Given the state of things and Hasbro's reputation, I wonder if it's a cost cutting measure.

I've finally tried every mtg set from last year. (counting only booster sets and commander precons.) Now I wanna see how many years back I can do. Starting w 2024 then 2023 and so on.

Without further ado here's my list of the best mtg products of 2025 in no particular order:

    Avatar Jumpstart
    Innistrad Remastered

    That is all.

Honorable mention: This one fuckboy from Final Fantasy.

I'm trying to use Spelltable. I bought a tripod, but before but I get that set up, I figured I'd try to spectate some games first.
But the other players' screens just show up blank, with the message "There was a problem changing the camera, try closing your camera app". Which makes no sense since it's supposed to stream footage from their cameras.
This happens in both Chrome and Edge. What's going on?

I could just go ahead and try to set things up to actually play, but something tells me that I'll keep having this problem regardless until I figure out what is causing it.

And just as I figured, someone is blaming it on Wotc owning Spelltable. https://www.reddit.com/r/SpellTable/comments/1cekb7n/cant_get_a_video_stream_anymore/ wow and here I was wondering if I simply gave up too prematurely. Editing … Actually sounds much more fun than playing via an interface. It's what I imagined the internet would be like in the 90's. Interacting with actual people online one to one. You can get a glimpse of what it's like at the other end of the camera like that. I'd make a game out of figuring out the personality of my opponent just from their hands.

I have this ongoing obsession with this current trend of cards being printed w whitespace in the set symbols. I feel as though they're begging us to color it in using a marker, and I already bought a gold marker for that exact purpose. (Defacing MtG cards ftw.) I've done this to a few Baldur's Gate cards I bought previously, and I plan to try it on Commander Masters next.

The marker I use is kinda thicc, but I don't know a good place to get one with a finer tip. And it does a decent enough job. From a distance, you wouldn't notice that it the gold was colored in.

When I think it through a bit, I guess my goal ought to be to acquire the most expensive card or cards in an expansion and deface those, for maximum effect. And better yet, I should post it on social media. Recording it would be even better than taking photos, since there's that experience of horror as I take a marker to an $80 card while viewers helplessly watch. I don't have a tripod, so maybe I should get one. For the time being though, I bought a booster box of Baldur's Gate for the heck of it. I'm not unlikely to open a Mother of Runes or some other goodies for my deck. But the best catch would be an Ancient Copper Dragon.

Jeepers, I haven't posted to this page in 4 years. War of the Spark = best set since Khans of Tarkir, probably better. Unlike Khans, no epic reprints, but the 36-planeswalker bonanza was such a fun idea and executed so well. Rob and I already split a box, and we're getting ready to split a second box + bundle with three other friends and draft it.
